    favorite bass combo w/di <$300

Watch out for that Fender Bassman. I've got an older(2 year) model. The XLR line out has a switch. One way it routes directly from the input, the other way it routes after the master volume. So if you want it with the EQ and compressor you need to crank it up. Kind of sucks at 2 am with children...

VF160 BUSS recording with scene mapping

I'm trying to simplify my final mixing process by making stem mixes of my tracks. I have left and right panned rhythm guitars and center lead/solo guitar. Each one is recorded on 2-3 tracks. Guitar Left is on tracks 1,2,3. Guitar Right is on tracks 4,5,6. Lead/solo isn't recorded yet, but will...

Electric with a flat radius fretboard?

Does any one know of a production electric with a flat radius fretboard? I've played a nylon string classical with one. I'm interested in trying an electric.

    Who plays with their knobs?

I've got dual humbuckers, 2 volume, 1 tone and a toggle. Tone is on 10, bridge volume on 10 and neck volume on 0. I use the toggle for a kill switch.

    "Guitar Player" or "Guitar One"

They both have CDs. I have subscriptions to both as well. Guitar One has a lot of instructional material that covers a few styles(metal, rock, blues & jazz). Guitar World is more celebrity oriented with a focus on rock & metal. In the 80's Guitar Player was viewed as a stuffy old fart guitar...

    Bass Combo Choices

I've got a Fender Bassman 100 combo with the 15" speaker and horn. Playing alone in my upstairs loft it will rattle the entire house and knock stuff off of the walls, but in a rock band situation it falls WAY short.

    Putting songs on our website

Use a Flash or Windows Media Player jukebox to stream the audio off of your server. Give them 2 or 3 full songs to listen to. 30-60 second clips are lame. Don't let the have free downloads. Instead of people emailing your free mp3 to thier friends they will be emailing a link to your site. If...

Looking for a bass to suit a guitarist

Look for a 'short scale' or 'student' bass. Here ar a few: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/navigation/student-short-scale-electric-bass?N=100001+306322&page=1 I've always played both guitar and bass. I'm not a big guy and the length of most bass necks bugs me. I'll think about selling my...

CD Labels - how do you do it?

I use an Epson R300. It works fine, but it guzzles ink. One tank goes dry and the printer shuts down. The Cyan is empty so no printy for me until I have the time to go to Office Depot. There are 120 fully functional Lightscribe drives on a pallet not 15 feet away from me that are all going to...

    Neeeto

Just stay out of, I think it was called, the RANTS section. MY wife was looking around there the other day. People were posting photos of the "fun" they had over the weekend. Not safe for work.

    Kids electric Guitar

Every one of the Squire minis I've picked up(about half dozen) have had ragged frets protruding off of the fretboard.

    Fostex PM0.5 Powered Monitors

I have a pair. Got them with the VF160 bundle from Musicians Friend. I like them. I don't ever get to use them because i can't make ANY noise at all, but they sound pretty good to me. My space isn't treated. It's an upstairs loft that is open to a hallway, stairwell and foyer. Doesn't matter...

    the truth on vf160ex?

My VF160 is running the 2.0 firmware, which I think is the same as the VF160ex. The only difference is the color and the "ex" doesn't have a SCSI port. The only time I had trouble burning WAV files to CD on my VF160 was when I tried to use SONY CDRs. Some of them worked, some didn't. The ones...

    Beach Umbrella over Drums Method???

That Multitrack Primer booklet was in the Tascam Sam Getcha Goin' Pack that came with the Tascam PortaOne 4-track I bought in 1985. It also had a pad of track sheets, some blank cassettes, cheap headphones and a cheap mic with a glued on yellow windscreen.

    Suggestions for a practice amp?

I've been using a Marshall MG10CD for a few years. No problems at all. It sounds fine. Not much in the way of tonal variety though. I think I paid $60 for mine new. You can usually pick them up on eBay for under $50. The Vox DA15 is looking might tasty these days.

thanks. how in the hell did this end up here? I was in the mix/master forum when I posted it.

    sibilance frequency?

I've got a spoken vocal with a lot of S's in it. I can usually fudge the pronunciation to get rid of it when I'm singing, but that technique is not working with the spoken vocal(it just sounds really bad). I'm hoping to zero in on the frequency of those nasty "ssssssss" things and notch the...

    VF-160 MANUAL STINKS!!! umm help?

The only problem I had with the manual was that it didn't cover virtual tracks(just mentions them), but since I never use them it doesn't matter. On to your questions: 1) Direct. Record your drums on 4 tracks to 5,6,7,8 using inputs E,F,G,H(you will need to use 7,8[G,H] for the phantom power if...

    Fostex VF160

I just looked over the index. It doesn't mention it. I can't recall reading it either, although it has been a couple of years. If no one at HR knows then ask here: http://pub15.ezboard.com/bvf16
