    Jazz guitars

Oh, and I almost forgot one of my all-time fav hollow bodies--the Ibanez George Benson model. Unfortunatly, everytime I ever picked one up I immediately sounded like George! It's just got that sound.... I tend to get worried when I start sounding like other people so I never persued one of...

    Jazz guitars

Bandmaster= good choice. Best clean sounding amp I ever heard and unlike a lot of Fenders it doesn't matter if you get a black face, silver face, old, or newish. They all have pretty much the same sound, unless you've got an oldie w/those blue-bell speakers. They tend to distort a bit so in that...

    punch-in recording

This is where a dedicated wave editing tool like Cool Edit 2000 or Sonic comes in handy. It's so much easier to zero in on the pop and then use the amplitude filter to drop it's volume down to zilch. Then just re-insert the wave into your mix. Piece of cake.;)

    Audio falls out of sync

Are you trying to record at 24/96? Try a different sampling rate. Stick with either 44.1 or 48 and I doubt you'll have any problems. A lot of machines have trouble keeping up at 96k. It's awfully demanding and doesn't really sound any better.

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

"recording with 24 bit is much easier than with 16 bit, because you' will lose information with each plugin." I'm glad you mentioned that because I just got Cakewalk GT Pro and one of the things they mentioned in the literature was that if you record at 24 bit and you use plugins they would...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

Well, when we're talking about it taking a long time to do things I mean that the files you create at 24 bit are a lot bigger than the ones at 16 so it takes a lot longer to apply effects and that sort of thing. A resolution of 96 compared to 48 or 44.1 would create a bigger file still. Of...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

Re: This is starting to bother me If 24 bit recording does not produce any better sound than 16 bit during the recording/mixing stages then why does every major studio on earth do it???? Capitol, Paramount .... They all do it for a reason. Because you can make yourself believe just about...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

It sounds like you've already got some great recording software there. The only suggestion I can make is to make sure you record everything at 16/48. That's the default for SB Live and if you try to record at any other resolution or bit rate your tracks will fall out of sync with each other...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

TJ; You may not believe this (and I'm sure there will be someone here who will have an arguement that's quite the opposite ;) ) but I've read about tests that have been done that show some of these 1/8" jacks are actually of higher quality than some of the 1/4" ones...go figure eh? It probably...

New Microsoft WDM drivers for Win98...

well... Last years model was 5.0 and now its 5.1. They've got a driver update if you have last years 5.0 but like I said, its just got a few bells and whistles for the gamers/kids. I will say this however, a lot of people have trouble trying to record at 16/44.1 with it. It seems it just isn't...

Some good news about GT Pro

Guitar Tracks2 and Guitar Tracks Pro. Pro is great for people on a budget using the SB Live cards because the old GT2 would only record as high as 16/44.1 and SB only records at 16/48 so it has to resample on the fly and tracks like to fall out of sync because of that. The new GT Pro will...

New Microsoft WDM drivers for Win98...

Re: Re: Re: Hmmm... That's correct, whatever the drivers are that it installs are what I'm using. I was at Creative's SB Live site just a couple of days ago and didn't read anything about a driver update for my card (it's only a year old. I have the 5.0 version; the 5.1 is out now but it doesn't...

Pod vs. J-Station vs. anything else with D1600

As far as what Charger said about mixing various distortion pedals with a Pod goes...I've tried similar things with decent results. Try a couple of the direct X plugins like Revalver or Cakewalk's Amp Simulator. DON'T use the distortion on them, just run them clean and let your stomp box do the...

Which software you use to make audio recording

Well you're correct in many ways Al. It's certainly a terrific tool if you score orchestral music. I don't think that's what a lot of people do though. They use it to correct all their mistakes and make them seem to be better musicians than they really are. Don't you think? Man, my best buddy...

New Microsoft WDM drivers for Win98...

Re: Hmmm... To be honest I just let SB and Windows work that little detail out. I don't really know which drivers I'm using. I assumed that SB would install whatever drivers it needed and thought best. I mean either they're using they're own or they chose to use the drivers MS already had in...

New Microsoft WDM drivers for Win98...

SB Live & WDM w/Win98 I've been wondering about this for a while now too. I never knew much about the WDM drivers before but I use Cakewalk and visited their site a couple of weeks ago to view any info they had about which soundcards could be used with their programs (they have a special page...

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

Are you sure that version of Cakewalk won't do that? I would think it could. You might want to try posting that in the Cakewalk forum. If it can't be done within Cakewalk then you might have to download a good wave editor like Cool Edit 2000 or Sound Forge etc. They're both fine products and...

Trade: Yahama PSR-340 and Boss DR-550 MKII

Belleville actually; and yes I've seen a few other posters here from St. Louis too. Interesting, maybe a pre or post New Years blast eh?

Trade: Yahama PSR-340 and Boss DR-550 MKII

I don't suppose you'd be interested in trading for Cakewalk Guitar Studio? 16 audio tracks-256 midi tracks etc. If interested go to cakewalk.com and read about it then get back to me. Thanks and good luck!

TIP: recording at 24bit 96k then mix down to 44.1 16bit

Thanks Sonus guy; I got to thinking about it afterwards and as a matter of fact I'm just using a SB Live anyway and it only records at 16/48 so if I want to record at 44.1 (which I do) then it gets dithered on the fly as I record. So yeah, either way I'm dithering my life away. Sounds great to...
