I need to learn Pro Tools but...

Some can of worms I opened here.... BTW I did go to school for audio, the Recording Institute of Detroit, and yes I did use pt there. I actually wasn't going to sweat getting pt because of my knowlege of nuendo, but all the studio's that I've talked to either run only pt, or they've asked if I...

I need to learn Pro Tools but...

Thanks for the replies, I didn't mean to piss on digi, it's just that I already have a setup and hardware that works great for me, and I don't want to pay for a box that I'm not going to use just to get the software. I have used pt before, and no, it's not hard. I need to know it inside and...

Couldn't you use a singe bd hit and just program in 32nd notes or whatever you wanted to set it at?

I need to learn Pro Tools but...

I need to learn PT for future jobs as it's an industry standard and I need to know it inside and out, even though I use and love nuendo. The free version would be great but it only works on Win 98. Is the cheapest way to get PT is to get the bundled software with the M Box? I just want the...

How to get that 80's Explosive snaRE!

Have you tried using a gated reverb? That will probably get you pretty close.

    Took the plunge...

I use the NT5s for overheads all the time. I really like them, they do the trick for me. If you want to hear them in action I've got some songs up here http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1627&alid=-1 . I've also had good sucess with them on accoustic guitar as well. Nice all...

What do you guys do with YOUR AKG D112?

Try compressing it a bit as well. You don't always need a huge kick to get that huge sound either. I have a 22 and I have to highpass it because it has too much low end. The heads and tuning will make all the diffrence too. What do you have on yours?

best place to buy a domain name???

http://unlimitedwebsitehosting.com is the best hands down. $2.50 a month with unlimited room and I believe 10 gigs transfer. Always fast servers and it never goes down. I registered at godaddy.com and had no troubles. www.watersignrising.com if you're interested.

    Recording heavy distorted guitars.

You might also want to try turning your distortion down half of what it is and then record a double track and mix and pan those to taste. Too many guitarists I've recorded have their distortion set to 11 and it always sounds bad.

    Mic isolation. Mini-gobo...on a boom???

I saw in last month's recording mag that auralex came out with accoustical foam that does exactly what you're looking for. They're pretty cheap and the reviewer really liked them.

    doubling vocals

I don't know about delaying. I played around with delaying a copy of a vocal track and all I got was phase problems. The only way I've found of doing it well is to have the person sing the double.

    Best external hard drive?

I have a 120 gig maxtor one. It works fine for backup, it's waay to slow to do any tracking on though. It's made for usb 2.0 but I only have 1.0, so I'm sure that makes a big diffrence.

How much does that Big Knob go for (or will go for)? Looks like just the thing I could use.

    Octava mk219

I think it's ok if you're going for that punchy kinda thud sound. I personally like more attack, so I stick to a regular kick mic inside the drum. On that sample I did give it a slight low and high end boost too.

    Octava mk219

Yikes, I made that post a loooong time ago. I've since upgraded to Rode NT5s for overheads. If I recall I had the 219 and 319 rubberbanded togther and angled over the middle of the kit. Certainly ghetto for sure, I've since gotten a second mic stand too. But since you asked I'll record a...

    Ringing Cymbals

For my 21 HH Raw bell dry ride I use a small rectange of TP attached with scotch tape. Works perfectly, and dosen't leave any residue. You just have to expriment to find the optimal size of the TP.
