    New synth player questions

We have similar setups - I'm currently using a small Alto mixer to get my ER-1, Erebus and Circuit into my AI and it's definitely not ideal... I'm saving the Roland OctaCapture

Better MIDI Keyboard Controller? M-Audio Oxygen or Axiom?

Personally I'd go (and did) with a Novation Impulse49 over both your options. M-Audio drop support for their products far to quickly IMO.

    Korg Electribe EA1 for ambience?

I recently had a couple hours with the Waldorf Blofeld and very nearly fell in love... Pretty easy/quick to create really nice pad patches. A bit menu-divey but in a kinda logical way that makes it ok... It's on my want list.

Looking for cyberpunk 80's type synths

Korg Gadget App. Arturia iSpark App. Auria App. AudioBus. Those 4 give you a good start... Loads of synth apps (many good free ones). Google is your friend.

    PA feedback problem

Apologies. Missed a page. And your right. Bang on.

    PA feedback problem

Not much you can do about drum volume except ask the drummer to chill out (dynamic drummers beat hard-hitters any day anyway) but you can certainly turn down the volume on your guitar and bass cabs so she isn't having to crank her vocal to the point of feeding back... Honestly shocked that...

    Multitrack Midi

I'd make it easy on yourself and pick up a dedicated hardware sequencer with a more friendly interface and just use the S3 as a module.

    Headphones for tracking

For most stuff (synths/keys/drum programming, kazoo & vocals) the Audio Technica M50x my wife got me for Christmas but I still prefer to track my acoustic wearing my old DT100's... They've got mojo.

    Recommend me....

In that case probably best to avoid the Electribes and the Akai's (synths and grooveboxes) and go with a sample based machine like the Alesis SR series or one of the Boss (Roland) DrRhythm's. The SR16 goes pretty cheap used but the SR18 is newer, better sounding. The only Roland I've ever used...

Should I dump these pieces of rack gear?

I'd flog em... Put the cash toward a synth, or a guitar, or a mic... Something you'll use.

    Mic Suggestions

I used to own a pair of c1000s years ago... We used them as drum overheads, on acoustic and often on guitar cabs (sounded better on my friends vox amp than a 57 did but was awful on a Marshall cab). For acoustic guitar - the M3s trounce the c1000s to my ears - much fuller, brighter and...

    Best interface for $100-$150? M-Audio M-Track MKII vs. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 ?

Expandable via S/PDIF - MIDI I/o - AutoSens - solid drivers - worth the extra money in my opinion... I'm using the 2i2 right now but saving for the OctaCapture.

    Recommend me....

Although I don't really think you can go wrong with the Alesis SR18 (cracking drum machine IMO) I really suggest you think about the kind of sound you're trying to achieve. I like the Roland R5 - it sounds a bit dated but it's just great! I've borrowed a friends a couple times and always on the...

    Ah... Damn exchange rate!

    Best interface for $100-$150? M-Audio M-Track MKII vs. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 ?

No midi on the 2i2. Go 2i4 if you insist on one of those options but I'd look at Roland QuadCapture. Better drivers.

    Acid Music 1

Probably not but in any case you'd be much better off getting a free demo version of a current DAW; even with the restrictions place on demo's they likely have more features and better workflow than 15 year old software.

Which drum machine is best for recording?

I personally like the Roland R5. But the sounds might be a bit dated for some peoples tastes but the ability to randomise pitch, velocity, nuance etc makes it really nice for me... My bud has one - I've borrowed it a couple times but he always wants it back. Depends on the sound you're after I...

    Advice for simple MIDI setup

Check out the Novation AudioHub2x4. 3 USB ports Balanced main outputs (Jack) 2 more outs (2 X RCA pairs) Headphone out 2 line ins (RCA) Made in conjunction with Focusrite and pretty damn good for a mobile rig IMO.
