    Looper pedals

After much YouTube watching and review reading I'm now erring towards the ElectroHarmonix 720 looper... Looks very easy to use and can store 10 loops. A bit more expensive at 120 quid but should be able to fund through sale of my Korg ER-1 (MKII) which I've sampled extensively and don't use all...

Mics for under $100 - that just may work for you.

Not sure if it got a mention but for under 100 quid I don't think you can go wrong with a Rode M3 myself. Cheaper and better (imo) than the AKG C1000 and very usable on a variety of sources.

    Hardware or Software Synth?

I much prefer hardware to software myself and my bassstation (in particular) and circuit get used a lot. I think more than anything it's a matter of workflow for me though - I've got Massive among other soft-synths that sound excellent but I find it far quicker (and more enjoyable) to use the BS...

    Looper pedals

I've been thinking about getting a looper. I really just want something very simple, and have been looking at the TC-Ditto and Boss RC-1 pedals. Of the 2 I'm slightly swayed by the LED ring of the Boss... Just wondered if there're any other basic loopers I should consider before I make a final...

Blackstar ID Core Beam - anyone used?

Thanks Dave. I pulled the trigger on it today (town was horrible with unwashed Christmas shoppers) and I'm pretty impressed so far.

How do I make this drum pattern? Tribal? What is this?

This would take about 3 minutes to sample, chop and recreate in Maschine.

Blackstar ID Core Beam - anyone used?

Found out that I'm being given a bonus in December's paycheck which is wicked. I've chosen a new guitar (been drooling on a hollow body for months) and am picking it up on weds... I've got an old Line6POD that I still use occasionally to record with as I don't have an amp these days. So I'd...

help me choose my vocals mic

If the X1 is even half as good as the SE2200II then you'll get a decent sound out of it.

first Keyboard controller.... How do you choose?

If you have Komplete then the NI controllers make sense if you can stretch that far purely for ease of navigation of Komplete. NI make solid hardware - Maschine is my favourite toy (although I finally have a new guitar on the way!) I'm also a massive Novation fan... The Impulse line of...

Noob Q: Map piano keys to VST controls in Ableton?

A quick Google search... This might be of use: https://digisound.wordpress.com/2008/06/04/setting-up-the-midi-keyboard-for-the-performance/

Rhythm and solo guitars sound bad

NI-GuitarRig wins in my gaf. Excluding vocals; I only throw a mic at my acoustic and percussive instruments these days.

First Mic: Too Many Mic Choices to Fit in Title. Help!

I'd look at getting a pair of Rode M3's rather than a single NT1. Great as drum overheads - great on acoustic guitars - good on cabs (with careful placement) and decent on vocals (again with careful placement). SE mics definitely worth a look too... I love my 2200mkii.

Yamaha AW1600 - will not power on?

Check/replace the fuse in the plug as a first step. It could be the PSU... A decent TV/electrical repair guy may be able to repair but as its an internal PSU parts could be a bind...

    Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 2

I use the 1st gen 2i2 with various input sources (turntable, synths, drum machines, guitars and mic'd instruments) and the only time I've ever had a clipping problem has been through user error.

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

There's various techniques to avoid this when using sampled (no one uses general midi sounds these days) drums though... Most hip hop producers (as they tend to use samples a lot) will layer their drum sounds up to get a thickness and leave at least one instrument (usually hi-hats) unquantised...

    Extra Kit for Shure SM58

Focusrite Scarlett Solo will run you at less than 90 quid (there's a studio bundle at £150). 1 decent preamp and a line in and stereo outputs... Think it comes with Ableton intro - which'll trump Audacity. You'll need to have some monitors of some kind... M-Audio AV30's are cheap and should be...

Don't know what type of mic to buy

IMO the Rode M3 is the best bang-for-buck small diaphragm condenser mic out there... Very cheap, very useful.

Best looper software for computer ?

You can do what you're asking (and a shedload more) with Ableton...

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

All my drums are sampled or synthesised (or both) so it really depends on the track... I do tend to go for 'real' drum sounds more often though and I definitely get bored of hearing the same 808's in tracks.

    Which mic should I purchase?

You can get a used SE2200 MK1 on eBay for much less than a new SM57. I find it much more usable.
