    Favorite Overheads?

If I had the dough, I'd probably opt for some AKG 414's. Or some Neumann KM84s

    Guitar amp and pickup question

There is no style of guitar for punk. It's not an accessory, you know. Just get one YOU like. Probably one with humbuckers. Does this guitar go with my leather jacket, man? Maybe I can stick some electrical tape to it. And then I can stick some safety pins through the electrical tape...

What is more important the mic or the pre?

Niether. It's a question of finding the right mic for what ever it is your recording, and using it in combination with a good preamp.

    Monitoring

Well, if you have a control room, (which I'm guessing you don't) monitors are used for listening to whats being tracked and playback. But in your home studio, if you use your monitors during tracking, they will bleed into your recording. So you will want to use headphones during recording, and...

when copying/pasting to doubling and thicken guitar do I use .5 delay or...

I wouldn't recommend copying and pasting guitar tracks. Just do overdubs. That is probably the sound you are looking for.

recording with no monitors? can i use a reciever and center speaker or.......

I've been doing dsomething similiar for years now. I'm still using my stereo as an amplifier. I just bought some Yorkville monitors. The little reciever pushes em just fine, and I also have a convienient way to listen to CDS through my studio rig. But if you can, you should ditch the stereo...

So how did YOU get into recording?

A friend of mine had a Tascom 4 track, and it looked really fun to play with, so I got one and never looked back.

    Good deal on Yorkville YSM1s?

I have a pair. They sound better than my friend's Alesis monitors that cost way more. I got a Tascam 4 track 424 and a pair of YSMs for $300.

    DIY monitor stands

I made some once, out of galvanized pipe, some aluminium tubing, and and electrical junction box. Just go to the hardware store and figure it out yourself. It's actually really fun.

    Guitar amp and pickup question

Well. Buying a rig is something only you can determine. Avril does suck, and who cares if shes hot. I don't listen to music because the singer looks good. The key word there is "listen"

    Anyone use ART preamps?

I have a Tube MP. Works pretty good. You get ehat you pay for. It's better than my Mackie's pre's.

    strange 60hz buzz problem

You could try those RF chokers. Little clips that go on your cables. They reduce RF a little, anyway. Sounds like your problem is bigger than that though.

Im gonna get kicked off the forum for this but...

I'd have to agree with you for the most part. The quality of your sound depends on your equipment and more importantly, your ability to use it. However, this IS a homerecording site, and I really enjoy listening to other people's creations. Even if they're not the best quality. I just like...

    Is this worth the money.....

Looks like a decent board. I'm not familiar with teh sound of it, but it apprears to have all the bells and whistles. 6 bus? that's kind of wierd. Never seen that before. $1800 does not sound too bad though. I'd keep looking though. I bet you could find something better for about the same price.
