    need pads on drum overheads?

You just have to watch and see how hard it's hitting the meters. If the meters are slamming when the pre is at low level, then engage the pad and try again.

    MPC60 for $50

I recently bought an old MPC 60 for 50 bucks. Not a bad price, I know. But I don't have the start-up disks or the sounds disks. Does anyone know where to get these? It would be appreciated so much. I want to get started messing around with it. It's just sitting here, lifeless. It's killing me! LOL

finger lickin good smackin f*ckin up the program...

I used to have to do this when I was doing post work. During a 30 or 60 sec spot, there usually aren't that many mouth clicks but, when they'd arise, I'd just zoom in on the click and do a crossfade on it. That way you can maintain a little of the "air" without hearing drop-outs. Its a long and...

Whats the last REALLY good recording youve heard lately?

I agree with pipeline, I'd like to hear less compression on todays CDs but it seems like everyone is out to beat the next person (hot level wise) How do we stop it?

    I fool myself

Hey Dobro, I've had the same thing happen to me. I always end up spending a lot of time on the things that need help, then, when I include them in the mix, they don't quite fit. especially after about 4-6 hours of mixing. Have you ever picked up on a cibilant noise on a CD, and then it drives...

    air conditioner noise

You could find a studio with a CEDAR (computer enhanced digital audio restoation)system. These are great. They are much more capable of removing noise (without losing too much freq.)than anything else in most studios. The CIA uses it. I know of a studio here that will do it for about 35 bucks.

    Crappiest gear Hall of Fame:

While we're on the subject of boxes, I should throw in the "guitar" I built years ago as a kid... Yeah, I built one of those too! Only mine didn't have electronics. It had a cardboard body and a piece of 2x for the neck. I used to be sooo damned good at air guitar........Hmmm, Maybe I should...

Best Bang for the Buck Hall of Fame

I've heard that for a short while, Pultecs were going for about 3-5 hundred bucks! Until people realized how good they were. I also scored 2 Studer Revox machines fro free, from a studio that thought they were outdated.

    Large dynamics

I love the 421. Made my guitars and bass sound awesome! It was the mic I had been looking for. Not to mention, I've never been to a studio that didn't have one. RE20 Yeah, I've seen them in broadcast alot. Radio, voiceovers, and the like. SM 57 are good too also a studio favorite. But overall...

    Phantom Power and Pre Amps

No the board will have pres. They will be labeled "gain". You may decide, in the future, that you want better pres, but the ones on the board will probably be fine in the meantime.

    Which Ibanez guitar to get?

In 1990,I bought an Ibanez RG 540. Very similiar (asthetically) to Joe Satriani's. Except mine was black in the middle, then faded into a metallic blue, then faded back to black. It was a georgous guitar. After about 2 years, I noticeed a hairline crack running just above the pots. Needless to...

    I only want the best........

AKG 414s are a very good buy for around that price. $800 ..I think. They're a little bright, but very versitile. That's what I've had my eyes on for a while.

    Anyonw in NEPA?

I know how you feel, I've been there. Have you tried placing an ad in the musicians wanted section of your newspaper? Do you record music, or just play? Feel free to stick around. The guitarists forum is pretty good.
