I've got three of those mics listed :-
Oktava MK-319
Studio Projects B1
MXL v67g
When I first bought these I was running them through an M-Audio Tampa. Whilst doing this I found the Studio Projects B1 to be a little too harsh and brittle sounding. I found I was using the Oktava MK-319 the most...
Hi,
I've just been given a Creative Gigaworks S750 sub :-
http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=113&product=9306
It didn't come with the 7 wall speakers and I'm wondering if there are any speakers you could recommend to go with this sub?
I'd be quite...
For £500 you've got lots of great options to get a decent preamp!
I picked up a secondhand Focusrite ISA One +Digital Card for £400!
I was originally using an M-Audio Tampa + DMP3 and couldn't imagine a higher end preamp being much better but the ISA One is!
Firstly it's significantly quieter...
If I was looking for a preamp under $500 then these would be on my shortlist :-
True Systems P-Solo
GAP PRE-73
Black Lion Auteur
The Tampa is an ok preamp but it makes my mics sound a little harsh.
Hi David. No I personally haven't tried it. I'm looking to upgrade my Tampa and DMP3 since I bought the ISA One. I couldn't quite believe how much quieter and smooher the ISA One is!
When I upgrade these the Grace M101, True Systems P-Solo, Chameleon Labs, PRE-73 and Summit Audio 2Ba-221 will...
I would give the Golden Age Projects PRE-73 a listen.
I have a similar set of pres :-
M-Audio Tampa, DMP3. I used to own the ART MPA Gold.
I have now added a Focusrite ISA One which on first initial testing is superb.
WOW not enough gain from the Firebox to drive the Behringer C3 condenser!?
Hmm something's wrong there! Are you using the 48v Phantom Power switch on your Firebox? If you are then one of your products has a fault!!
I've just seen this new plugin preamp card from Jim Williams Audio Upgrades and am wondering if it would be possible to use in a DMP3 or Tampa?

At the end of the day I'd be VERY happy with either the P-Solo or Grace.
It seems that most people who have compared the P-Solo to the Grace compared it to the older 101 model. The new M101 is meant to be a better preamp.
I like the M101 for the extra gain, rackmountable, impedance switch.
I...
I've been reading various reviews the True Systems P-Solo and it looks to be a bargain on the secondhand market. It's practically half the price of a secondhand Grace M101.
I like the look of the Audient Mico's features and it certainly has loads for the money!
Has anyone had any experience...
I'm looking for a clean / uncoloured preamp to go with my Focusrite ISA One. After a very quick test with the ISA One I was really impressed at how much quieter it was than my Tampa. I've not been able to do any further testing as my computer has gone down
I currently have a DMP3 which is...
Yeah I wish it was 1u high, had individual phantom power and had 2 ouputs per channel for direct monitoring.
Oh well. guess we can't have everything for $159. At least it's design more practical than the Rane MS-1s.

Hope this helps
My vote would be for the Eureka. You can later upgrade the opamps and transformer in this and it would be a nice channel strip.
I didn't like the Focusrite Platinum stuff. I found it a little thin and sterile sounding.
I would also check out the GAP PRE73 if you don't need a channel strip. This...
I have a Tampa and had an ART MPA Gold. I upgraded the tubes in the MPA Gold to NOS Telefunken and GE tubes.
The MPA Gold had a nice tone but I found it way too noisy for critical recordings. The Tampa was MUCH quieter!
As a result I sold my MPA Gold and kept the Tampa. I was disappointed to do...
