I think Ethos had the best answer. You need to establish yourself on your local scene first and foremost. I'd say print up some flyers, like the same ones they do for parties/clubs, find where the local hip hop spots, like places you can buy hip hop clothing, get hip hop music, where local...
DC is my hometown too, but John Legend isn't from there. Here's from Ohio....But can claim Marvin Gaye, Ginuwine, DJ Kool, Mya, producers Rich Harrison (Crazy in Love, Solider, One thing) and Chucky Thompson (Who Shot Ya, most of Mary's best album My Life)...We can't really claim VA Beach though.
Other than NY or LA, no place gets more people, both industry and non industry, commercial and underground, coming looking for music than Tha A. There so many venues down here to make connects, too. But, like Ethos said there are a lot of production companies here, but on the realz, half of...
Yo 20 dem joints is hot, I'm especially feelin that Boom Boom track. Do you record out there too. You from Louisville right? My girl is from there, and last time I went home with her, her brother introduced me to some MC's out there. You should start doin' some songs with them hot track you...
Yeah that cat Wall St. and Sam Adams had some heat!!!! Sam was there this time, but he wasn't in the battle. He actually got a deal with someone, I don't know who, since the last battle. This month it was between IO, and this dude M16. M16 won. It's definitely a place to market yourself in a...
I guess you don't recognize the cat who carries your same name....... :D
Hit my "Southern Joint" thread, and give some feed back on this song I just completed.
No, they come with battle CDs. They give the sound man their CDs before the battle. The host MC anounces who's up next, so the sound man knows which CDs to put in, then the two completeing producers come up on stage, with their little sheets, and they get on the mic and tell then sound man...
If you want one like that, then do the song with the videos. Check for the latest from the big artist. Jeezy, Franchaise, Nas, Jay, Paul Wall, Rick Ross, Ghostface, TI, Young Jock, E40, Santana all have single coming out that should bubble.
I use Pro-tools plug-ins for compression......As far as vocals you've got to feel that one out. I layer my hip hop vocals, sometimes twice, sometime with just ad libs, and use reverb. Just a touch, not so much that it has an ols school sound to it. You can't hear it when the track plays behind...
2 producer played beatz for 45 seconds, and then the judges decide who moves to the next round, until one producer is left.....
Yeah, Beats you should start it off in the Yay, no doubt you would get a good turn out.
For rappers, image changing/creative control usually isn't an issue. Nowadays majors aren't picking up any rappers who haven't already proven themselves regionaly. Meaning they've moved 15K or more indy units, or getting major weekly radio spins, with a strong local buzz...It would be...
Wind up piano was hard for me to get into. I didn't really understand the direction it was going, and I wasn't really feeling the sounds, they sounded a little casio.....Not losing again, I'm feeling your striped down approach, the beat had my head nodding, but I think it still needs some more...
