    Actually composing a song?

I usually write lyrics and simple guitar chords for my songs. However, I'm trying to "branch out" and learn more about the music behind the lyrics. This is probably more of a music theory question (or set of questions), but I'm asking anyhow... Let's say that I've written a song where there's...

    Writer's block...

I'm in a major case of writer's block right now. I'd say I haven't written anything in a good 2-3 months. Any thoughts (besides just writing down random things) to break out of the funk? I've got some topics bouncing around in my head, but no muse as far as lines go...

    Composing & chord progressions

Maybe change keys? Go from C to D, or C to G, or whatever. That might be a start. Maybe pick different chords within the key you're currently in and see if they fit?

Advice on selling my CD in bulk?

Have you considered going to a local music store in your area and asking them? Or maybe not even that. Maybe a gas station or small mom and pop restaurant that sells "souvenirs". Just a thought.

    Dumb CakeWalk question...

Thanks, David! I'll have to give that a shot!

    Dumb CakeWalk question...

If I'm understanding mikemorgan correctly, yes. I think you just have to assign a softsynth to it. I haven't tried it yet.

    Dumb CakeWalk question...

Ok, let me clarify. I have a MIDI track set up to use the session drummer. I have a loop in the session drummer that I like, and it's assigned to the MIDI track (let's call this Track 1). Now, what I want to do is create a separate MIDI track, and basically assign an instrument (like guitar)...

    SellaBand -- Anybody used this?

Well, I live about half an hour away from a major city in the US. They probably have recording studios. So, I could probably use them, then, right? Now, how would these people and I collaborate? I mean, would they fly them to where I am (let's assume the studio location is acceptable). 4. Are...

    SellaBand -- Anybody used this?

Yeah, it sounds very, very interesting. Once I get three of my "demos" made, I will consider putting them up there. But I do have a few other questions. Once the $50K is reached: 1. Who decides what recording studio and where? 2. Who gets to pick these "professionals" to assist with the...

    SellaBand -- Anybody used this?

I saw that on there. The things I seem to be reticent about, though, are: 1. Being "tied to" the believers contractually for 5 years. 2. Finding 5,000 people to "invest". 3. The believers getting 50% of the sales of that particular album. I don't mind each of the believers getting an...

    Dumb CakeWalk question...

Yes, I recognize it's a dumb question. Here's what I'm asking. I'm running CakeWalk 2002 (I believe) I know how to use the Session Drummer (well, sort of) in CakeWalk. What I want to do is basically create a drum loop, but instead of it being drums, it's piano, or guitar, or whatever. I...

Writing a song for my wife...

Heartfelt and well-crafted is, of course, the ultimate goal. I'm speaking from a lyric standpoint. Some lyrics are more direct about the "love" and the "I love you's" than others. Although, I think I might be able to do something.

Writing a song for my wife...

Ok, I'm wanting to write a song for my wife. However, I'm not sure what genre I should use. My writing style and my voice (I think) are more suited to country, whereas my wife likes a lot of Metal. She doesn't just like ANY metal, though. She doesn't really care for anything Metallica did...

Your Forever (Is Shorter Than Mine)

Thoughts? Opinions? Critiques? In the chorus, I originally had a different 3rd line. I changed it to what it is now. Your Forever (Is Shorter Than Mine) © 2008 V1: You told me you'd love me forever I thought you meant for all time Then you left, told me good bye Your forever is shorter than...

Dude! I love this. Although, I think I'd change it to "I approve this message" instead of "I approve of this message". And I absolutely love this line: take with salt by the cup not the grain

    A Political song (sort of).

I know! I haven't written anything in a few weeks at least. And yeah, my commute is definitely longer now, and I am pretty busy, or at least have a lot of things to do. Which of these is better? Your ego bruised, you soon will fall your ears do not deceive. Point a finger in the mirror, for...

    A Political song (sort of).

I've thought about that. I may do that, and just move some lines around, or eliminate some lines.
