    Three different sounds

Soundcloud does something pretty horrible to audio. It'sgeared for speed, not quality. They also use loudness normalisation, not sure if it's done at the encoding stage (but I'd presume it is) which might have an effect if it's hard coded into the files. I haven't tested making a separate mix...

    Underheads vs. Overheads

Rejects spill a treat, and can work. If it's an either/or choice I think you'd probably get more mileage out of overheads for a full kit sound (inc toms, snare etc), but underheads could work if you played with the placement for long enough... Very much depends on what mics are in your limited...

    What would you do?

Facebook doesn't give people a notifications saying you've removed/blocked someone. Do the job, take the money, remove the racist. Unless the album has racist content, it shouldn't be a problem. As Greg said, nothing to be gained.

We are building a mixing and mastering guide. What are your thoughts?

Sure: SfEP suggested minimum freelance rates - Society for Editors and Proofreaders Jokes aside, isn't this a marketing post primarily rather than a discussion?

We are building a mixing and mastering guide. What are your thoughts?

"For making your whole mix blend together better, we have learned an effective trick from professional musicians. That is to put your drums and effects in the same key (tonic note) as the rest of your track." Seriously?

Stooges mixes: bowie vs pop (spotify links)

Iggy's mix is my preference. I'd be prepared to bet that both would get quite a bit of critique in the clinic if they were posted as an original by a member. Iggy and Bowie probably don't ask people for mixing feedback in online forums though... Still, I'm with easlern on the performance...

Rock track - nearly there but something isnt sitting right.

Yeah, I dont write these, thats the other guy's job ;-) I must've got lazy with the editing - having gone through with a critical ear, I missed loads. Commence de-flubbing. It's going to be track 4 (?) out of seven I think. A couple of the other tunes are much more single friendly if there was...

Do audio interfaces have any effect on CPU load?

Mostly it's the drivers that will affect your CPU load. The music production focussed interfaces are much more likely to have good core audio or asio drivers, so you should be able to get lower latency and lower CPU load with those. Not to say you can't get good performance from the hi-fi ones...

Rock track - nearly there but something isnt sitting right.

Sure, I can edit it. I'd prefer to have the main lead part for that section sorted first though. Gives you something else to edit to.

Feedback on Alternative Mix please? "Waiting"

Well, I have no interest in getting into personal beef, I'm sure there are valid points both ways but that was my 2p (hey, I'm english). You do alright if you dont get drawn into arguements ;) The guitars lose definition a bit around 1k (too much gain?), but there is room below that. The...

Rock track - nearly there but something isnt sitting right.

Thanks for the listen guys - I prefer to keep unfinished stuff off soundcloud as I only use it for finished stuff (if at all), probably just a vanity thing. I've been trying to get the basics in place before anything super process-y. The rawness is an interesting comment for me - I very much...

Feedback on Alternative Mix please? "Waiting"

Just had a listen :) After all the fuss about how it was un-listenable rubbish..well, a sense of proportionality wouldn't go far wrong around here. I didn't think it was bad at all. This is Home Recording, not 'lets-pretend-we-are-all-super-pro-funland'. The guitars sound kinda...recessed...

Rock track - nearly there but something isnt sitting right.

Not a problem. Sorted a file without the second acoustic in it - good spot on the drums, the top end had been bugging me. As mentioned in the original post - the vocal is not the final one, it's on a list of bits and bobs to tidy and/or re-record, so it is indeed a bit pitchy in places and...

Rock track - nearly there but something isnt sitting right.

Ah! The background noise is on the second acoustic guitar, forgot to mute it as I haven't done any work on it. He's a big dude sitting on a small stool so it creaked. We're re-recording that tomorrow with a bigger stool. Could explain the panning stuff too, it's panned left and very low at the...

Feedback on Alternative Mix please? "Waiting"

Can we re-name this thread to 'fight thread'? Im gonna go listen to this mix later and give feedback, purely because of all the fuss.

Rock track - nearly there but something isnt sitting right.

Been working on this mix this week - need some time away from it to come back and finish it off. Seems like something isnt sitting right balance wise but I've lost perspective a bit so I'm taking a break and putting it out to consultation. Vocals aren't final. It's been a while since I put a...

One way around it (if you're not using cubase) is to sort the monitor mixes in the mixer software that comes with the interface - it has facility for 4 separate mixes (1 for the engineer and 3 for monitors presumably). You can use any combination of inputs and outputs from the DAW. If someone...

Capturing GoPro video and quality audio at the same time?

Is there no plug on the gopro for an external mic? The GoPro software isn't the greatest (from experience), but it can do the job. The other alternative is to try and hit record for the audio and video at the same time, which is far from an accurate science. Edit: I just looked and they sell...

Capturing GoPro video and quality audio at the same time?

Really? Set up for a guitar recording using lots of your studio equipment. Set the audio recording. Set the video recording. Make a loud, percussive sound (clap board?). Do your thing. Stop the audio recording. Stop the video recording. Then when it comes to post production, line up the...

    Popular Music - limiting & 0db

It'll all depend on what the levels in the mix are. It's basically impossible to retroactively comment on someone elses gain staging (with regards to how much gain they added with the limiter/maximiser) without looking at their project files, we don't even know which software they used to make...
