preamp shootout - Daking MP1 vs UA710 vs SSL Alpha Channel

All sound nice, the SSL is probably the most transparent, as you said, but it sometimes sounds a bit 'forward'. Relatively little difference, as you said :) I'd say that any of these would be a good bet on most/all sources.

higher-end pres into line-ins on interface

I would wager that it will make very little difference in real terms. Feeding a 'nice' preamp into a 'not-so-nice' input stage with no gain applied will affect the signal very slightly, but unless someone with seriously trained ears, years of experience and access to the exact same signal...

    Awesome new website - mixbuddy.com

Looks like a reasonable idea, kinda like a music centric version of People Per Hour or Skillpages. When will there be customers on there though?

What kind of microphone is this?

Do you have a photo of the whole mic rather than closeups? Nice carpets.

Tutorial: Bounce Multiple Audio Events from Cubase Simultaneously

Ah yes, I see now (actually watched it). Actually very useful, I've been using Cubase for 10 years now and it's nice to know there is still more to it.

    Presonus R64 - R80

'Flat sounding'. Flattness isn't always a 'good' thing, its most important that the monitor tells you what you need to know, rather than being scientific with the graphs. I have a pair of Adam A7x's in the studio and I find them really useful, the top end in particular highlights nastiness in...

Tutorial: Bounce Multiple Audio Events from Cubase Simultaneously

What is the benefit to avoiding the batch export function? (sorry, havent seen it yet, just asking?)

    Clarett 2Pre from Focusrite

I haven't heard anything negative per se - I just don't see as much chatter about them as I expected to given the level of advertising/marketing that's been put out. They are relatively new though, so that could be it They market the pre's as sounding like the ISA range when the 'air' button is...

    Clarett 2Pre from Focusrite

I have yet to hear from anyone using the Clarett range yet - I'd be interested to hear also. I've heard good things but they don't seem hugely popular with people who post in forums. The 2pre looks like quite a nice unit - it will almost certainly be a definite step up in every way from the 2i4...

Mid range microphone to record vocalin home studio

That's unfortunate - if you have the time and money you can hire mic's quite cheaply to test them. It's worth asking around, sometimes live sound hire companies have this kind of kit available or will know someone who will :)

Mid range microphone to record vocalin home studio

The sE is the only one I've had experience with and I left quite impressed on both male and female vocals. I've heard mostly good feedback on all of these, is there any chance you can audition them somewhere/rent/borrow them to try out?

    18i20 Seemingly High Latency

Basic question first - have you got the most up to date drivers for the focusrite?

    record button Cubase 8

You could also use the * button on the numpad of a computer keyboard (all the transport controls have shortcuts mapped there too) - does the same thing afaik.

    VST Connections

Ah - fair enough! Mine doesn't display the windows bar (with the maximise/minimise/close buttons) when it's like that!

    VST Connections

I know it's off topic, but I see you're not using full screen mode for the mixer? Any reason for that (just because I'm curious)? :)

Emulating tape delay - early Pink Floyd

Which VST's have you tried? I find that a send with either TAL-Dub or NastyDLA (both free) on it does the trick for most old fashioned delay sounds - a bit of EQ on the FX channel works wonders sometimes.

Connecting An Interface To Home Theatre

It will very much depend on how the interface software works, but you should be able to do exactly that (providing the optical in/outs on the interface and Hi-Fi are using the same standard). You my be able to assign your stereo output to spdif. The user manual's for interfaces are normally...

    Monitor Upgrade...Rockit8's to 20/20's or NS-10M-T's...???

I used to mix in a room with Rokit 8s and I agree. If you aren't getting 'enough' bass out of them either they are broken or your room acoustics are SERIOUSLY wonky.

how would you record with 3 mics for guitar, voice, and room?

2 ribbons? Both figure of 8? +1, works a treat.
