I have to agree with the above and Roland, in addition to the previously mentioned take a look at the JD990 if you would prefer a module. I have a JP-8080 and it does some nice strings as does my Korg Radias. What is your budget and type of music you will mainly be using the synth for?

there are a lot of good kybd suggestions above but I would add that you don't sell off your Emu VK, I had both the VK and still have the Classic Keys module but I use it as a layering sound via midi. You can use the Roland/Nord or whatever other bd. you pic up and have it connected to the VK...
