    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

Hm, maybe the bypass switch was shot so someone just soldered the two wires together. Thanks for the link, and thanks for taking the time. I appreciate it.

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

Thanks Muttley. I dove in last night. I'm not a guitar tech, and my soldering skills are a bit rusty, so go lightly. I first just clipped shields to ground on jack, the red to the point. Got nothing. I then threw caution to the wind and clipped the 2 black wires that are soldered together to...

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

Yep, it's a '62. It's a little beat up around the back edge of the body. But the binding on the front has no rot or dings, does have a little bit of separation between the first layer of white and the center black layer. Had to lower the poles on the neck pup as the strings were making contact...

Questions about selling a stickered up guitar

Since you're not looking to get much for the git, budgetary requirements and in a pinch if you have some around the house you can try charcoal lighter fluid(which i'm pretty sure most is naphtha based) to cut/remove sticker residue. Test first. There are a few products out there, such as "goof...

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

Information trickling in... The guy is not a guitar player. However, he acquired the guitar in 1980 shortly after graduating college. Guy who owned it needed cash for an insurance payment. So apparently it's at least pre 1980. Oh, and he says it "has a buzz" when you plug it up.

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

Thanks Muttley Yeah, tuners appear to be Grover Imperials....not on the market until early 70s(?)

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

Exactly.....unless he is just a dumbass. He's pawning it off to my wife as a 62, for $650. Says he "just wants it to have a good home". Fine, bring it home and i'll take a look. If it's really a 62 i'll make sure it's real happy here. :thumbs up: Researching serial numbers....

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

I'll have it all weekend to take a look. From what I understand, on the back of the headstock it has stamped numbers, but they don't seem to make sense from my limited research. I've read that there may be more to be found by taking off the control plate(s). I'm still trying to dig for...

    Anyone know Gretsch guitars?

The guy wants $650, says it's a '62,...I think. I'm suspicious, doesn't sound right. I'll have it in my hands all this weekend to take a better look. It's a badass off the beaten path body style. Maybe a Duo Jet? What I don't like is, it looks like maybe the Bigsby has been replaced, gold...

    Vox Phantom

Back (mid 70's) when I had my Teisco/Del Rey Phantom copy, I wasn't sure if I had the coolest guitar in town or the oddball loser-est axe around. For whatever reason, I guess in a sort of self deprecating humor fashion, I dubbed it "an antique from the future". I guess i was just too young and...

    Looking for feedback

Nice tune. I could see this one with a lonesome fiddle, mandolin....and civil war photo montage. Nice start. Keep going. You can hit that note, you're almost there.

    Unlikelyman (A Kitchen-Sink'd Story-Song)

I think the vocal is buried and still needs a bit of a bump. The narrative is too vital to not be intelligible. It's a shame to altogether lose that old radio type affect you had in the earlier version. Just an idea.....Maybe use it in one part of the song. I'd suggest the last verse. "Alarmed"...

    The New Tone Thread

Good for you pal. I guess for some it only tips the weird scale after they find the body. Don't go getting all paranoid now.

    The New Tone Thread

^^to add... Not to mention the level of some of the stuff some of you guys are posting. The bar is set pretty damn high. It's both inspirational and discouraging all at the same time. anyway, sorry to muck up the tone thread.

    The New Tone Thread

It is. I know I get accused of not recording, and/or not posting any tunes. In part it's true, I hate and never desired to be a drum machine programmer. And, when I'm done, it sounds like cheesy canned drums. And at times I've had to change what I want to do to what I can do on the drum machine...

    The New Tone Thread

The majority of the time I have any dealings on craigslist the initial response is some cryptic weirdness. Even when the response sounds normal and sincere too often there's no follow through, and I end up pissed at myself for once again being so gullible as to be polite, mindful of making the...

    The New Tone Thread

Craigslist gets weird as shit sometimes. When it works it works, but some of the freaks and scammers on there deserve to get a good pummeling about the head and shoulders with the business end of a rusty shovel. too harsh? :o
