A Studios Main Vocal Mic choices please...

I don't know how you can take yourself seriously if you don't have a pair of AKG C414s in your locker. They reek of respectibility, they are great on anything, and not very expensive for a pair of microphones you will use forever on everything.

Comments on my revised lay-out, please

Use double sliding doors to the outside. :) I'm no building expert but I know that one sliding door cuts a lot of sound. And two on a double walled studio would seem to be very good at cutting sound. I think my logic works on this one.

is a P4 crap or should i stick with this amd 475?

Ok, i will step on a soapbox for a second. If you are "throwing" out your mobo and power supply could you not actually throw it out? It has all sorts of poisonous metals and toxins on it, and it harms the water system and ecosystem. And on the other hand, there are a lot of people who don't...

    my computer is mortally wounded

This isn't your Tyco slotcar racetrack from 1980. Don't use an eraser whatsoever. If you have buildup on your cards then you should probably move away from where you live. Dust is about the only thing that will buildup, and that wont wedge into your slots unless you take the cards out and...

What's up with this new Alesis device ?

Alesis is RETARDED. im sorry but 10megabit ethernet? what the hell planet are they on. that was standard about 10 years ago in networks. 100megabit has been standard fare on any computer NICs for atleast 5 or 6 years. they must have saved negligibly a dollar per HD24... but the loss to the...

    Framing and Truss Question

They play at The Vibe on 6th street. Incidentally they are playing as I am writing this. I didn't know that, and I had a late class today. But their usual slot is Thursday or Saturday either 10-12 or 12-2.

    Why Mac computers?

brzillian, I never talked about networks, or enterprise level database servers, or anything of the sort. The PPC platform is different from the x86 platform in its instruction set and processor layout. I will not get in a speed debate, as they are near useless. But if we talk down to...

    Why Mac computers?

Mac has a closed architecture. They design their OS with a few specific pieces of hardware in mind rather than the endless slew of windows compatible hardware. So when testing say the M-Audio Delta 1010 on the Mac , M-Audio only has to write drivers that cna interact with the probably 20...

    2" Tape Machine

A cheap alternative if you intend on just using the tape's effect on sound. Buy a 1/2" 4 track, or 1/2" 2 track which are more common. You will probably only be running kick and snare at the same time, or vocals, or something else. Make sure it is a 3 headed machine. Send your direct out of...

    Hey Harvey!!!!!!

Not really a loss of respect, but you are putting yourself in your place. You really don't have the knowledge to make a professional recording because you don't even have the knowledge of what the components are to make that. But neither did the pros at one point in time. using your pres...

Flex ATX form factor barebones systems.

Yea, thats exactly what I mean. Don't you hate all the noise in cubicle rooms, or even non cubicle small offices? excess heat. These things have low power supplies so they can't be that hot. I have a noisey reliable PC for recording. But for family members that hate hot, loud PCs, I'm...

    I want my knobs back

i have 2 XT 20s which I ALWAYS track to. Then i dump to the computer to mix via lightpipe or mix using the 1604vlz depending on "the sound" that is being looked for. Vegas Audio and computer FX/dynamics sound a lot different than their analog summing/outboard gear counterparts.

    A Community Project

No offence. But your questions of why you need a DAW and a Motu are scaring me if the YMCA is vesting its trust of $10,000 to $40,000 dollars. Since you don't say what part of the US you are from, I would recommend you find one of the senior members (not ones with a lot of post counts, but...

Need to record 16+ Channels at once.

MOTU 2408 can take in 24 channels of your TDIF at a time. You work with 3 banks of data. You can do any combo, 8 analog/8 adat/8 TDIF, anything. And their converters on the MKII are 24/96. I find their control panel software a bit odd and cumbersome, but that will definitely let you use your...
