What computer and soundcard do you have?

I just bought a 2500+ but I bought PC2700 not PC3200 like you did. I am not overclocking is that why you have faster rated ram? I was under the impression that PC2700 work at 333mhz which is the same spead that the 2500+ is running. someone correct me if i am wrong. thanks.

    Aardvark Direct Pro Q10

69ShadesOfRed, I have a specifc question for you. I am thinking about upgrading from my p3-733 to almost your identical setup. The MSI K7N2 Delta-L and an AMD XP 1800+ to 2400+ depending on price. I think it is only 250Watts (its been a few years since I looked at it). How many watts does...

Bought Gear based on this Forum

It started back a while ago. Shure SM57 - i like them. Behringer ECM8000 - piece of crap, i would sell them to anyone. Behringer Composer (2x) - Old school, made in Germany I had to look for these. They are not at all like the ones that are being made today. Very nice. Alesis ADAT XT 20 -...

120v/240v on tube mic power supplies

Would there be any problems taking a mic I buy in the states to the UK and using since the power is 240v/50Hz? I would use a transformer :) for the conversion but Hz wont change.

my "studio" for my current project.

Over the winter break I started recording some music. I recorded drums and guitars at my parents' house. Some of that might be redone pending key changes incase of vocals or just to make it sound tighter. Now my friend is playing bass now in my apartment. We started on that today and 3...

    Blackface ADATs?

i don't know about ADAT parts but something has me confused about Alesis. They made 2 HD slots, which person in their right mind didn't make it so that you could run a 2 HD RAID array? this is supposed to be professional and all, but sinlge point of storage is not exactly redundant, which is...

Tuning the snare without the ring?

I have to agree about the ring. While true, too much is over kill, but there is always ring on the snare on any quality recording. The ring will be lost in the rest of the music. But if you muffle the accompanying frequencies and sounds that die with muffling will never be there to make it...

I can't seem to get a mic level right, what am I doing wrong?

From what I gather, and I didn't spend the time to figure out what the XR7 is (analogue/digital) but to answer the question that stuck out most is; yes, you do need a mic pre. This should be your signal chain. Mic->Pre->Recorder. However, most 4 tracks if not all these days have pre amps...

What sampling rate do you use?

I think what blue bear didn't explain fully was that he tracks at 48 and then mixes on an analogue board to a master medium at 88.2. He can correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember something about his setup.

Does anyone know if it's bad for a tape machine to freeze?

shit, you are going to have a few more problems than a cold reel to reel if you leave a space heater on without anyone in there. space heaters are insanely dangerous. Just let it come to room temperature without plugging it in when the spring thaw comes to your control room, haha. Otherwise...

    Help! I think I killed my R2R!

Different demagging wands have different strengths. When you screwed up with the radioshack wand it is hard for that strength wand to correct the damage. If you jump up to a higher strength things get more volatile. definitely use the 6 foot rule, and when coming close to parts don't let the...

Control room drawing:better/worse/same? begging for ideas here

Not the sort of a post I'd expect from a longtime member. The search function would have yeilded many results for 20 x 20 space. Like this one from a few weeks ago. That first drawing was quite disturbing  more like a cage than anything else. You can take this drawing and run with it...

how can i clean this mix up?

i am glad i downloaded this song. what a good song. it is funny how much time is spent talking about how to make recordings sound better yet poorly (its all relative) recorded songs that rock still rock I would rather listen to that song 100 times in a row than 99% of the stuff on the radio...
