    HOME RECORDIST! List your chain.

I vowed many many years ago to never to set foot in Houston ever again , BUT, if by some twist of terrible luck I end up in that god forsaken hell hole ever again I will track you down, look at your set up (somehow) and post it on this sight. To find you I figure all I would have to do is go to...

    HOME RECORDIST! List your chain.

Im always contemplating what I should buy next , I look online , read reviews and almost always get more confused and even more undecided afterwards! Specifically I am thinking about getting a new Interface? Anyway if you have a HOME studio list your current setup, DAW, and signal chain, I...

How would you record a whole drum kit with just one SM57?

I may run home from work and grab my Laptop then run to my studio and do a recording with one sm57 just for the hell of it.

Need advice - Drums oriented small recording room at home advice

Have you recorded anything yet in the room as is?......Im always curious if people get their room ready but then don't actually record because they think they need a bunch of room treatments? Or they record one or two things then conclude that the reason its not meeting their expectations is...

Recording someone who is on drugs.

The project is on Hiatus , The dude called me all tweaked out yammering about how he needs to get finished and that I was the reason why the project is not getting done. When I told him that I had over 20 guitar tracks that were mostly unusable , he claimed that I probably mixed them to sound...

Recording someone who is on drugs.

Guitar player on speed, well Adderall same thing pretty much. Cant get a good take while sitting, ok play standing up then, BUT you cant jump around , stomp your feet or fucking sing along since we are in the same room as the amp with 2 mics on it . I finally say fuck it stomp and sing all...

Recording an album's worth of songs... what instrument order?

Unless you have a great room to record in its best to do all the drums at once , Ive had subtle but noticeable changes in the sound of my drums from one day to the next and I didn't move one mic position or setting . I can only guess it was change in my rooms environment , temp , pressure etc ...

    Of Tubes and Pres

You could use an SM58 with an ART MP for your voice over and tell everyone you used an U47 and 1176 and no one would know the difference with a little processing .

    X/Y with a spaced pair?

So I settled on a spaced pair and a mono room mic which Im not even sure I will use in the final mix ? What I am going to try someday, when I have enough decent mics is XY with cymbal close mics or I guess I could try dubbing the cymbals in later which Ive heard is becoming more popular. Im not...

    X/Y with a spaced pair?

Yea but Im gonna try both ways, angles and distance, and not worry too much on what its supposed to be called and just listen . Thanks!

    X/Y with a spaced pair?

I think I will spread the XY and see what I can come up with. I have tried recorderman and Glyn Johns and didn't care for them. The greatest thing about experimenting is Ive learned when you have your overheads in a good spot your close mics on the snare and toms are just icing on the cake ya...

    X/Y with a spaced pair?

Yea Im gonna try moving the spaced pair farther away but probably not 20 foot. I really dig the x/y as far as how the drums sound but I don't like the narrow spread on the cymbals which is why I tried the spaced pair too, but when I combined them I couldn't find the best of both worlds.....yet!

    X/Y with a spaced pair?

So this weekend I set up an X/Y set of OH's and a spaced pair on my drums . I really like the focus of the X/Y but really like the spread of a spaced pair too, I couldn't really make both pairs work together well but I thought maybe someone has a trick or two to try out before I chose one or...

"Ordinary" - an album worth posting about

Its hard to get past the vocals , or talking ? I am not trying to be a dick but I was loving the music but I couldn't keep listening , music and creativity like this shouldn't have a vocal that comes off as a second thought , you could do better .
