Ethereal Embers - Been forever, I know... (New Original)

Thanks, Ray. I'm a total n00b at this stuff. I listen to Trance all the time, but actually creating it is somewhat mystifying to me. The throb kind of threw me a curveball as well, at first, but it grew on me the more I used it. *shrugs* Thanks for your input, Pete! (and going out of your...

    Shoulda Done Do.....

Sure thing, man. I'm glad I was able to help confirm your suspicions or whatever. Anyway... Yeah, I listened to the new mix, and it sounds 100% better. Bass is kickin', and it seems there is more of a thump on your kick. Great tune, dude.

    Shoulda Done Do.....

I really like your drum sound, man. Throughout the song, I kept thinking there was something wrong, and about half-way through, I figured it is the guitar tone. Next to the drums and vocals, it sounds muffled. The performance is awesome, and I think the tone is good, but personally, I think...

    Metal Track

I didn't mind the guitar tones at all, either. Nice and grungy... Good sounding distortion.. Nice and smooth. I can hear a bass, but it's very, very low. Drums are another story. Your kick is very hard to hear, and from what I can hear, it sounds flappy, but that might be the inconsistency...

    Storage Unit Demo

If this really is recorded in an untreated metal storage unit, kudos, man. The most impressive to me is the definition you've managed to capture in the kick. It thumps just like it should. Good work.

Man, I miss listening to your tunes, Pete. You have a style in your soul, bro. Few others can funk it up like you do with those beats. I love it. That said, there are some mix issues. Everyone else pretty much nailed it with the lack of air and sub freqs.. Get those rockin' and you'll have...

Ethereal Embers - Been forever, I know... (New Original)

So, I've been so busy producing other people's music, I've all but forgotten how to do my own. As electronica is definitely not my forte, I thought I'd post this here for a few critiques, comments, and whatnot. Critiques on everything are welcome. Specifically... Did it hold your interest...

Pop acoustic song under construction, need mixing advice

Very interesting song, but to be truthful.. Not very cohesive. The compressor is pumping like crazy through the whole song. If the track is recorded with the pumping, then.... not quite sure what to do about it. But if it's not, then get rid of it, and start from scratch. It sounds like it...

    My first mix, opinions please.

First mix, eh'? Well, dude. Kudos. The vocals, to me, sound a bit thin, but only slightly. Drums sound good, if only a bit relaxed. Bass and Kick sit perfectly to my ears. If it were me, I would probably EQ out a *hint* of low-mid in the bass to tame it just a bit. The vocals at the very...

Merry Christmas from the Greg_L family - another two-fer! 2014 edition!

*grins* I came here hoping that you had created your annual masterpiece. It certainly didn't disappoint. Makes me want to start a similar tradition while my kids are still young... Thanks tons for sharing, Greg. I was smiling and laughing through both of them.

    no name yet

I really enjoyed this, too, but the whole time I was missing the signature sound of your voice, dude. As it is, it's pretty awesome, but .... I just really like listening to your voice over your tunes.

What About Me V3 - Final?

Just took a listen. Sounds great, guys! I like a bit more attack on my kicks, but that's just personal preference. Sounds great!

    Outside Looking In

After two listens, gotta say man - this rocks. If I had my druthers, I'd do exactly what Greg recommended. Take everything but the drums down just a bit. Maybe 1db (or two), just so the snare never gets buried. As far as the stereo field is concerned, it sounds nearly perfect. Toms sound...

Yeah, dude. You've got a signature groove in all your stuff, and I love it. Good work with this one, Pete!

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - featuring RAMI on vocals!

If I had any money at all, and if he would do it, I would love to fly him up here and see what he can do. The reason my drums sound as good as they do is because of him. Greg says nobody listens to his advice, but my first 6 months here, I took every shred of advice he gave me and tried to put...

    baby tombstones

The only thing I found wanting was getting rid of the vocal doubling on Trish's voice. I don't think it added anything while she was singing lyrics. Her "ooohhh's" were great doubled. I think the bass could come up a bit, too, to match the drum levels. It's good to hear music that seems...

    Same tune, different thread.......

FWIW, this mix is definitely not bright on my monitors, but on my "bright" headphones (Grado SR-225), your vocals could use a bit of a tone-down in the brightness area, but nothing else... (probably around 3 - 3.5K). That said, I don't find this mix to be bass-heavy either. It's pretty tight.

    Back in the studio

Good to hear something from you again, Whitestrat! Initially, I think the drums are a bit loud (especially the snare), guitars could come up, too. Performance on the drums could be tightened up, too. I'm interested in hearing the vox when ya get em' recorded.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - featuring RAMI on vocals!

hehe... Honestly? I'm embarrassed to say it, but only because the drum sound I get always seems to fall short of the ones you put out (and I think mine are pretty good)... Anyway, yeah.. I programmed computers for 15 years, but had a studio-room in my basement where I would record clients...

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - featuring RAMI on vocals!

I haven't read any comments, so I apologize for any redundancy. ahem... Your drums are blowing my mind... and I do drums for a living. snappy, full of body, precise, etc... I'm done. I quit. I'm shaming the good name of drummers everywhere. A-frickin'-mazing, dude.
