    monitors... "near-field"?

Thanks, Mumbus - I'll be sure to keep that in mind when I go out looking. Just an update... After a trip to Radio Shack to grab some adapters, I now have my computer speakers hooked up to my Audiophile directly and don't think it should be a problem to hook them up to my mixer either. So, I...

    In your face vocals

Another thing that John Mayer uses a lot is the whisper track. There have been discussions about it on here before, so you can search for more info. But, the basic gist is that you just lay down a track where you just whisper the words - no melody whatsoever, just whisper sort-of monotonally...

    Digitial Distortion HELLLP!

Never knew that there was a separate volume setting within Cakewalk... Is it just in Musik Maker or in most of their software. I'm using SONAR and find it's always WAY louder than most of my other sound-producing apps. Where is that control found? Thanks. :)

    Band Recruiting tips.

Firstly, I would try to find a decent bass player no matter how many strings are on his bass! Hell, if he plays one with only 2 strings and can play a decent groove, I'd go with him over someone else just because he has a 5- or 6-string bass (plus it'd be quite a novelty :D). Also, another...

    Newbie studio set up help?

It'll actually support as many mics as you can get plugged into your mixer, but it's not going to give you 1 HomeStudio track per mic. You're still looking at 2 mono tracks. So, doubt you'd want to do this, but, just as an example, if you wanted to put a few mics up at the skin and blend them...

    Newbie studio set up help?

Ha!! There's always something else you'll "need". :D :D But that should be a good start for ya. With HomeStudio, you'll be able to record as many tracks as you like separately. Keep in mind though, that with that software and with the Audiophile soundcard too, you'll only be able to record...

Help! I'm Stuck In A Rut...

Have you checked out the MAudio Delta Control Panel to make sure that the recording level is up high enough? Go into the Monitor Mixer tab and check out the "H/W In 1/2" sliders to make sure that they're at a good level. This could be what's going on.

    Recording Vocals

You might want to try some slight compression going in if you want to make the nuances a little more prominent. Also, for the popping, try mic placement. Since plosives tend to go down from the mouth, you can try aiming the mic downwards towards the singer or, if pointing upwards, aim it...

    monitors... "near-field"?

Wow - lots of great responses here - thanks, all! :) I also sort of feel like it might be a waste to spend any money for low-budget monitors, but I need something. So, I think my first course of action will be to try hooking up my computer speakers - it's amazing when I look at all the Radio...

    monitors... "near-field"?

Howdy, folks. I need a pair of monitors on a shoestring budget. I found MAudio DX4 Active Nearfield monitors online for $150, but sadly even that's too pricey at this point (buying new house). So, I've found some really cheap ones, but they don't say "Nearfield" in their description, so...

    Frustration Copying/Pasting MIDI

Hey, guys. Thanks for your help. Well, I just tried it, and the darn thing worked without even having to click the "Align to Measure" checkbox. It also worked when I checked that. Now I KNOW that I spent LOTS of time the other day trying to get this to work with no luck. I'm POSITIVE that...

    using 2 soundcards

Howdy, folks. Well, after the Audiophile 2496 dropped to $100 from $150, my thinking about getting one finally turned into a purchase. I have been using a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard, which I would like to keep using for non-recording kinds of tasks (don't do much gaming, but for...

    Frustration Copying/Pasting MIDI

Thanks for the replies, guys! So there's not really a way to just select/copy/paste the whole measure (including any leading space)? It seems a bit cumbersome to have to go in and figure out exactly when the first note of a MIDI selection happens so that, after pasting a copied measure of it...

NEW tracks for you to check out!

I really like the sound of these! My only complaint would be with the vocals, but I'm not sure if it might just be a performance issue instead of a recording issue. The softer vocals sound great, but they sound rather strained or forced to me when they start to get heavier. It could just be...

    give me feedabck

Hey, ace. I just listened to Make Yourself, since I'm a big Incubus fan. I agree that the guitar sounded bass-heavy, but I really dug the vocal sound. You really seemed to get it close to sounding like the vocal sound on the original. Very impressive - what sort of processing did you do to...

First time mixing a full band together

Hey there, Randy. I also enjoyed this song a lot! I like the lyrics, and it sounded like it was mixed nicely to my (admittedly inexperienced) ears. I dug the guitar tone! Good tones on most everything actually - I think the drums maybe could be a little crisper, but from what you've...

    Frustration Copying/Pasting MIDI

Howdy, folks. I'm trying to do something that's so simple that you'll probably all call me a moron while giving the solution. That's ok! I can take it... I'm thick-skinned! ;) If I can get a solution to this, I'll be happy no matter what you call me. :D I have a bar of MIDI info (drum...

    Sonar Producer (any mastering capabilities?)

Ding! You just said the magic word - free! Always seems to fit nicely within my budget. :D I'll take a look for it, so I can check it out. I use the mp3 converter that's part of my MusicMatch player. Otherwise, I think that most of stuff you mentioned I do in Sonar, except for the noise...

    Sonar Producer (any mastering capabilities?)

Howdy, minofifa. Would you mind telling what kind of "final touches" you use Cool Edit Pro for that SONAR doesn't let you do? I'm rather clueless on the "mastering" front, so I've pretty much just been pulling in the stereo mixdown and doing a little compression/level adjustment and maybe...
