OMG this singer is driving me nuts

Tae, to this day if I'm on the talent (I use that term loosely) end of things, the second I open my big mouth I jump back like a snake. I've never been very comfortable performing with cans on. Maybe that helps me from an engineering standpoint sometimes though. Most vets don't give it a second...

OMG this singer is driving me nuts

Josh, I have to guess the quality (sonically) of monitors out of phase might not be the prettiest. Strictly a rough reference kind of deal. And there's got to be some kind of bleed but supposedly it's minimal. I'll dig around tonight and see if I can find it. Either that or Glen or someone will...

OMG this singer is driving me nuts

Been there on both ends. Singer and engineer. I haven't tried this yet but maybe someone here has. There is a way to wire live monitors out of phase from the mic so they cancel themselves as far as the mic is concerned. No cans and they feel they're singing more naturally to the sound around...

    recording Indie rock

And again Mr Emo, you didn't give us what you need. The above bands used umpteen million different guitar set-ups with lots of different outcomes. What exactly are you not happy with RE your guitar SOUND. I don't think there's a modeler out there with a "indie" setting. Are you just not happy or...

    recording Indie rock

Oh yes. You will definetly need to use fake modeling type of devices to get that great indie rock sound    Uhmm, what guitar are you using? Pretty darn important to know. What mic are you using? No offense but Indie Rock isn't a sound. Granted the term gets shoved around quite...

Best sounding album you have ever heard?

Yeppers! For reference and pure ear candy. I would also throw in "Being There". New on the sonic radar is Electric Version by The New Pornographers Nirvana/Nevermind XTC/Black Sea (Oldie) Clash/London Calling John Doe/Forever Hasn't Happened Stranglers/No More Heroes

    What do I need??

I like the 2gang/4 XLR Carvin Brand. There's a new Whirlwind twistlock XLR out there that we liked alot. Solder tabs are nice and solid construction. Strain relief works well also. XLR Do yourself a favor and make them TRS. They'll still work as TS but you'll have the option. Use quality...

    Hypothetical Ooopsy

One thing I've heard about TRS however is to be very sure that no phantom power is on while patching. You could be misapplying power when the TRS is on it's way into the jack. You should always have phantom off when patching no matter what but you could damage something more easily with a hot...

    PA systems?

I'll second the Carvin gear. Lots o bang for the buck.

    PA systems?

Given your title and your musical style, I'm guessing you'll blow the thing up in no time. Bigger mains and more wattage will have to do. I know the price is cheap but death metal is hell on PA speakers. I would kick it up a notch or two in quality and I think you'll be happier.

Yeah that would be smart. Unfortunately my patchbay is all XLR. Oh well back to the solder board. I've got a 1/4 patch laying around there somewhere. I don't like using adapters. Always the weakest link. Thanks guys!

    Hypothetical Ooopsy

Ahhh Glen to the rescue again. He had the ProjectMix input set to mic input and not line. Yes they are switchable. Thus viola! Bzzzt. He hit the phantom power button on the PM and there you go. IF I'm understanding this correctly.

    Hypothetical Ooopsy

Hold the phone a second here. The Project mix has both 1/4" and XLR inputs for each channel. Coming from the ART ProChannel to the Project Mix I'm running XLR. I should be running out of the 1/4" output jack of the ART to the 1/4" line input on the Project Mix?? What's the XLR out on the ART for...

    Hypothetical Ooopsy

The ProChannel is sending out balanced XLR. I was told if I went balanced XLR out of the ProChannel, I should patch balanced XLR into PM I/O. In other words keep it balanced throughout the signal chain.
