GAS equation: How much do you spend on food?

Make one or two large meals a week and then eat left overs the rest of the time. My tap water is from a private well, not too hard, so that gets me through. I go all out occasionally to have a good time, but certainly not more than twice or thrice a month. I need all the money I can get to pay...

    Stripping/finishing guitars

;) Don't mind me, I'm just being a jackass. I tried refinishing my bass, and while it came out decent, it still cost me more than to just buy a new body already finished. I completely screwed up the first time around, so at least 8 cans of paint were wasted, then all types of sandpaper had...

I must have played every fuckin' tube amp in the place..

Still expecting sound clips.... This amp really intrigues me. I love fender amps for grungey, dirty sounds, but the fact that it has the extra gain stages means it also gets to near metal territory (just add an OD pedal and you're there). Needless to say, the cleans are heart stopping. If I...

    Instrumental Metal

The lead guitar sounds really good, but the rhythm is lacking. How did you record it?

    hi everyone needing advise

I recommend reading around a bit to learn more about this kind of stuff. There's literally a million combinations of equipment we could pick out for you. But we don't know how you work, so what we like could be entirely different than what you like.

Meh Might as well post this

It depends on what you know. It's a general focus on recording. There's a lot more stuff than say, "Home Recording for Dummies". It was meant to give you a general understanding of the technical aspect of recording, and how the equipment does what it does. I found it very useful, especially the...

Hey, I have that book that's on your chair. It was my text book for intro to recording at school.

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

In these cases, I'd give the part in question plenty of lead in time and just do it part by part. But only after first recording the thing straight through.

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

I don't think anyone has ever gotten a "perfect" take. But getting excellent results takes time. I always play the song all the way through for each take, for consistency, and then pick and choose which sections sound best. Just keep doing it and you'll get better. A metronome is essential for...

    Cheesy folkmetal..any help??

If you can play well enough in time with yourself, I'd record a much cleaner guitar over the lead lines and bury it so that you're just getting the attack. This should add clarity to them. Nice song, btw!

    layout/treatment ideas

Thanks guys! TexRoadKill: If I put my desk there, then I wouldn't be able to treat the first reflection point to my right, the door on the left of the drawing gets in the way. bpape: There really isn't any room in that corner. The space from the doors to the corner is about 6 inches tops...

    the right pick?

I use the yellow Claytons. Never had much of a problem with them slipping out of my hands. I absolutely love the feel these things have against the strings.

    layout/treatment ideas

I have a terrible room to work with, but I'm moving out in a few years so I don't want to make any permanent changes to the room. The room currently has carpet, but there is a hardwood floor underneath. The carpet is being removed later this year, and the oak floor is going to be refinished...

    Building a custom fretless bass

A nice bone nut is always good, that's what I replaced mine with when I refinished my bass. I wish I could help you with bridges, but I don't know anything about them. :o What pickups are you getting? How are you finishing it? Can we see pics of the progress?

    Hearing loss myths?

I've heard that the little foam cylinder ear plugs are worse for your ears than fitted ear plugs. Is there any justification to this? Does it have to do with ear wax build up in the canal? I don't mean to hijack the thread so... From what I've gathered reading around, the frequency of the...

    Best Compression VST

Make sure to turn on the super nice setting! ReaComp is also really good, but I'm not sure if you can use it without Reaper.

    Fender solidstates all bad?..

Well, as you know, that's not quite the amp's fault. Any amp will sound like ass if the one using it sucks.
