    A Song For A Friend

Lotsa views, no responses... guess that means it sucks and I'll have to redo the whole thing.

    Jazzmaster Love

Jazzys are cool but for me, it's all about their pups and not really about their aesthetics. There's a pickup manufacturer that makes JM pups that are so thin you can install them in any guitar without modification to anything except the pickguard. When I remember his name, I'll post a link.

    Live Recording and Disk Drives

If any of you do live recordings on the regular, what storage medium do you use? I'm building a mobile recording kit and am looking into getting a rackmount data storage solution so that I can stop carting around my 1TB external HDD. I'd prefer something with an SSD drive or that uses an HCSD...

    what order do you mix?

I like this method and it's somewhat similar to my own. I do a lot of different types of music, so starting with say, drums doesn't always work. I tend to track a whole performance LOF and then I'll track each instrument separately and mix it down in order of what instrument is supposed to be...

Boss Br600 adding effects to dry recording

It's been a long while since I've used my BR600 but I seem to recall being able to record takes dry but with the efx "auditioned", meaning that I hear them while recording but they're not printed to the track.

anyone ever heard of a peavey PVM 580TN mic?

Yep, I know this thread is as old as Moses' boogers but I recently acquired this same mic and thought that this link might help anybody else who might be looking for info on this old mic: http://www.peavey.com/assets/literature/manuals/80301048.pdf

I've been using the 1800 for a couple of years now, without issue. It's a great interface.

    A Song For A Friend

Earlier this year, an old friend of mine died - too young, to say the least. I wrote this song but never got around to recording it until a couple days ago... His sister's birthday is coming up and I'd like to give her the tune as a gift. There are a couple flubs that I plan to redo over the...

On the usefulness of ADAT in today's recording environment

A few days ago, I came across an ADAT XL at a pawn shop and have been thinking about it ever since. In today's digital recording environment, how useful would something like an ADAT or a cassette recorder of any kind be? It seems to me that everything that either of these devices could provide...

    What's Up?

Frig. Side-chaining never seems to work for me (I've got to be doing something wrong) and I've only just recently learned about parallel compression. Have you got any good links that you can share with me that can help me understand how to utilize these techniques? Maybe a short walk-thru or...

    What's Up?

I used Variety of Sound's Density MKII comp on the kick to smash the hell out of it and then used Ferric TDS to kind of put some "air" around the whole kit. I'm not looking to emulate the Beatles' use of panning but rather I'd like to get the kick to pump in time with the music.

    What's Up?

Here's another new song mix - this one has a LOT of stuff happening... whaddya think? We're gonna re-record the vox at some point, I think but so far, I think this mix is coming along really well. One thing - I really want to get the drums (kick and crashes) to pump a la Helter Skelter-style...

    FS: Beyerdynamic M260

They'll need to be replaced. Not such a huge deal, except that Beyer (and Sennheiser too) are not the most helpful companies in this respect. You'll likely have an easier time going to an independant - or at least, smaller mic repair person/company.

    WTB: cheap reverb/effects unit

You know, you can make a pretty decent reverb on the cheap out of an old guitar amp spring 'verb. Takes like 30 mins and shouldn't cost more than about $50, tank included.
