    Recording rain methods.

I've heard great things about that Audio-Technica 4073a. If you can find one, you should probably grab it. Apparently it's got pretty high gain and decently low self-noise and is a good mic to have, if it's your only shotgun. Myself, I dig the ME66, even though I've read a few not-so-good...

    Location recording mic?

I'd definitely recommend some small diaphragm condenser mics. They're easy to carry around in the train station, you can set up a stereo pair in your window before you go out for the day, take them out to the woods and get the sound of the leaves crunching under your feet. They'd also fit right...

    Recording rain methods.

To make stereo recordings, you're not going to want a pair of shotguns. You'll likely find a lot more use out of a pair of small diaphragm cardioid condenser mics. Rode makes a matched pair at a decent price point. And of course, the Oktava MK012 is a very popular mic at a reasonable price as...

    Location recording mic?

Another mic to consider - which I've heard nothing but great stuff about - is the AT4073. Google it up and see if it suits your needs. It's considerably cheaper than the 416 and ppl really seem to like it.

    Location recording mic?

I suppose I should have been clearer in my post. When I say the 635 is "pretty awesome", I'm not really speaking about it in terms of practical field recording use. I use them at home, strictly - on my vocals, as drum OH and on guitar cabinets. For all of these sources, I really enjoy this mic...

    Location recording mic?

the 635 is pretty awesome, I must say. as for stereo mics, what about the NT5 from Rode? Audio Technica also makes a nice one, but it's much pricier. I used a pair of Rode M3's for a long time but they were pretty big... I'd recommend something smaller, lighter and - I hate to say it - more...

    Recording rain methods.

Why do you feel you need a pair of shotgun mics? I do a bit of field recording and I do in fact, have two shotgun mics but they're not a pair. One is a long/lobar gun and the other is short (actually, the ME66). Are you trying to create a stereo capture of the rain? If so, (I'm no expert field...

    Accordion Microphone

And to add to this, the "natural" sound of the accordion isn't found within the instrument... it's what you hear when standing either in front of it, or holding it. The sound from inside will never sound completely natural, imo. Last year, I made a couple of contact mics using piezo transducers...

TASCAM US 1800 Clicking and Popping

I guess i can be added to this list now... Today, my us1800 started making w weird popping and crackling sounds all of a sudden. Yesterday, i downloaded the addictive drums demo and today, tried out a couple n new free plugs. Now, everything is good until i record something. Then it starts...

Recording saxophone - tips please !

I used a Royer 121 ribbon on this recording: "You Need A Man" - Thunderfunk And a Studio Projects CS5 LDC on this one: "Get Funky" Both sounded pretty good, imo. The choice of mic used was based on the overall sound that I wanted the tracks to have. In the first song there, I was looking for a...

    Latency Using Analog Ins (US1800)

When I plug my preamp into the US1800's 1/4" jacks on the back of the unit, I experience latency issues. When I use the spdif out on my pre, it comes thru without a problem. This seems strange to me. I'd figure that it'd be the other way around... Any ideas?

Umm, excuse me? Automatic Mastering? ...What?

There's that Band-In-A-Box program... apparently all you have to do is pick a genre and input a few chords to start and it'll make a whole song for you - chord progressions, backing band and all. I suppose after that, you can sing your vox all out-of-tune-like, slap some autotune on that sucker...

Umm, excuse me? Automatic Mastering? ...What?

Ever heard of this program? Curioza's Auto Audio Mastering System Seems like it could be a great learning tool but to let an algorithm master my music on it's own? I'm not so sure. The demo has a 21-day trial period, so I may give it a whirl and compare some stuff that I have had...
