Another mic to consider - which I've heard nothing but great stuff about - is the AT4073. Google it up and see if it suits your needs. It's considerably cheaper than the 416 and ppl really seem to like it.

the 635 is pretty awesome, I must say. as for stereo mics, what about the NT5 from Rode? Audio Technica also makes a nice one, but it's much pricier. I used a pair of Rode M3's for a long time but they were pretty big... I'd recommend something smaller, lighter and - I hate to say it - more...

Why do you feel you need a pair of shotgun mics? I do a bit of field recording and I do in fact, have two shotgun mics but they're not a pair. One is a long/lobar gun and the other is short (actually, the ME66). Are you trying to create a stereo capture of the rain? If so, (I'm no expert field...

And to add to this, the "natural" sound of the accordion isn't found within the instrument... it's what you hear when standing either in front of it, or holding it. The sound from inside will never sound completely natural, imo. Last year, I made a couple of contact mics using piezo transducers...

Beats per minute - Tempo calculator

When I plug my preamp into the US1800's 1/4" jacks on the back of the unit, I experience latency issues. When I use the spdif out on my pre, it comes thru without a problem. This seems strange to me. I'd figure that it'd be the other way around... Any ideas?

There's that Band-In-A-Box program... apparently all you have to do is pick a genre and input a few chords to start and it'll make a whole song for you - chord progressions, backing band and all. I suppose after that, you can sing your vox all out-of-tune-like, slap some autotune on that sucker...
