    AKG K240M's or AKG K240DF's?

I could be wrong but I think both of the headphones you mentioned are open or semi-open. If you don't want to hear external noises or the microphone picking up the headphone mix you might want to check out a closed design instead.

    Aardvark vs Digi

    1. You probably won't notice much (if any) difference between 48 and 96kHz. 2. The Protools software is much more attractive that Cakewalk. It is a lot easier to work with! 3.An external mixer wouldn't really "make up" for the Aardvarks 4 inputs, but you would be able to submix instruments...

    Explain this to me...

Actually, I know a guy that uses these for mastering along with Dynaudio BM-15 nearfields (last time I was there he had Event 20/20s) and Dynaudio M3's. The fostex speakers don't sound great or anything but they have there purpose.

    $79.00 condenser in Musicians Friend?

I haven't heard any of the mics you mentioned, but for the same price you could get a MXL 603s which has a good reputation. I've got 2 of them and don't regret purchasing them at all. The MXL is definitely no Neumann KM184 though!!! :D

kick drum mic (sm58 no good?)

The PRO 25 will definitely work. I was using a RE-20 on kick and I found that I liked the PRO 25 better! I guess it kind of depends of what type of kick sound your looking for though. I try to use the mic that works best for the song without the use of EQ. That way if I do need to EQ the kick...
