    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Okay everyone, here's the new mix, final until we reach the pre-master process for this album of interpretations. Thanks to all those who listened and provided feedback. We did take everyone's opinion into consideration, though of course we did not implement every single suggestions. But even...

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Just popping in to let you all know that we've been reading your comments and thank you very much for them. We will be rolling out a final mix after this weekend hopefully. I've had a small delay with other projects, personal and professional.

90's Pop Punk Mix... need some suggestions for improvement!

Biggest problem is what rayc said: There's virtually no overlap in frequencies between bass and guitars. You want the guitars and the bass to have a range of frequencies (usually 80-200hz) where they both inhabit the space. That will help the song feel balanced instead of the guitars and bass...

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Appreciate all the feedback guys. We will experiment with bringing the drums in for the 2nd half of the 2nd chorus (when it picks up in intensity), then dropping them out, then having them come back at the end with a bang. I may experiment with adding length to the final chorus but I think it...

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Really appreciate the feedback. The first synth part was a trial just for kicks. I agree the drums could come in on the first repeat of the chorus. Thanks!

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Interesting, thanks for your feedback. Obviously we purposely left the drums til the very end as a punctuation, or as you said, a burst. They weren't intended to be 'developed' but I'll keep it in mind, thanks! Thanks for listening and your feedback. The piano is a VST, which I usually don't...

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Tobe, thank you for listening. Both of us know and have covered the song in its original form many times. That's why this is an 'interpretation' and not a 'cover'. The goal is to bring out the weight of the lyrics by setting them against a softer background, as we did with "Sweet Child O' Mine".

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

Hey everyone! My father and I (Escher's Enigma) are back in the studio. Our recent album For a Moment was mostly originals, but our interpretation of "Sweet Child O' Mine" had critics and listeners talking. So we decided to go make an entire album of interpretations of classic songs. We're...

Newbie to HR first mix i feel comfortable with recieving feedback on.

Thanks for sharing this, it takes a lot of guts when you're first getting started. Vocals sound nice, and the reverb you chose suits the song and genre. Besides the obvious chorus volume vs rest of song issue), here are some problems: -Acoustic guitar is way too bright. Sounds like there's a...

Waves L3 Multimaximizer VS. Slate FG-X

One more vote for Pro-L from Fabfilter. Gets stuff loud and remains incredibly transparent, if you want, or use tone shaping options. One of the best plugins I ever purchased.

    New song! Critiques needed!

1khz is the frequency where finger noise is found on bass guitar. Boost there to bring out some pop. Maybe 2db.

New morning - acoustic pop with vocal harmonies master/mix

First of all, this is lovely. Exactly the sort of music I listen to (think anything Zach Braff put into Scrubs, Garden State, or other movies). It's a shame about the hiss at the beginning, because it became much more pronounced in the mastering. I would have brought the vox up 1-2db in the...

Are these drums too far back?

I can only echo what everyone else has said. Bring the guitars down 2db and the bass up at least 2-4db. You'll probably need to EQ the bass once it's at a balanced level (it's so low right now I can't tell if it needs EQ or not). And I agree with the timing issue. The guitar is constantly...

    Piano and Vocals, Jazz/Pop

It's such a nice surprise to hear something so wonderful in this section. Don't change a thing. The reverb is lush but it works perfectly for the ambiance. Brings to mind Imogen Heap (one of the highest compliments I could give). Let me know when the album comes out, you've got a fan.

    New song! Critiques needed!

Thanks for sharing man, I'm digging it. Thoughts: Intro guitar: Could use a faint delay to give it a little more space. Bass: Seems like the right level, but it could use just a little more finger pop in the 1khz range Rhythm guitars: Awesome sauce. Drums: Kick and snare are fantastic. Hi hat...

Guitar/Vocals simultaneous - "Missed the Boat" by Modest Mouse cover

Thanks for your feedback dudernut. The reason I strum the verses is because when I play this live it keeps the song moving forward, and also I focus on doing interpretations rather than covers. Still, I have the intention of doing the verse riff with a dirty electric guitar later in the process...

Guitar/Vocals simultaneous - "Missed the Boat" by Modest Mouse cover

Hey everyone, I have always recorded guitar and vocals separately with great success, and I advocate this technique constantly on the forums. However I am working on an interpretation of "Missed the Boat" by Modest Mouse, a song with great significance in my life, and I'm just in the early demo...

    Mix I'm working on.

Listened to the most recent mix. The guitars sound digital, and not in a good way (I'm actually a supporter of amp sims when dialed in properly). Drums are way too buried, and like mjbphotos mentioned, there's no bass to be found. As I've said in the MP3 Clinic a million times, PLEASE GIVE ME...

A start to my first mix!

Guitar needs to come up 3-4db for sure. I'm not convinced the tone is all high end, just that it's sitting so low in the mix I can't discern the low end. Once it comes up a bunch it will be easier to tell. The drums are WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too loud when they come in at 2:30 or so. The kick and...

Looking to upgrade some of my gear

DinoRock is my father and recording partner, he asked me to take a look at this thread. As he said, we have no experience with the Line 6 UX8 system but from what I'm reading, it is great for guitars, and only decent for mics. What you have to understand about preamps is that all Digital...
