I need condenser mic for recording vocal!!

I think you'll find that neither will be better for all vocals. It probably wouldn't hurt to have both. You'll probably never mic everything with one mic. Do you have an sm57 yet? If not, it's a good, versatile mic to have, and not to shabby on vocals.

    Shure Beta Series

I've used beta 52's and d112's a lot. They are definitely different. I think more people like the d112, but in my opinion it just depends on the situation. I've gotten some great sounds out of the 52 when the d112 sounded pretty crappy. As for the overheads, I'd probably go with something...

Possibly still interested in the Omnirax.

    does anyone mic the bottom

I mic the side a lot of times (try a SP C1) to get that nice rattle sound. I've had a lot better luck with the side than with the bottom. To be honest, though, I usually just use SoundReplacer now.

    tascam FW-1082 or Presonus Firepod

Are you looking for one with a control surface or a rackmount unit? The Tascam model you listed has a control surface built in. I've never tried either model but I've had real good luck with Presonus. Their A/D/A converters and preamps are about the best in that price range. They are based...

    Only one condenser

KSM44 or the AT 4047. The NTK can be really sweet but it is probably not as versatile as the other two. The AT 4047 is one of my favorite mics.

    is preamp that important?

In general, a preamp can make a huge difference in the sound. It's just one link in the recording chain, but it's an important one. I recommend getting a decent one, even if it's only something like the M-audio DMP3, which is around $120.

    Studio Projects C1

The SP C1 was the first condensor mic I ever bought. It really is a good buy for the money. I think that you'll find with mics that no one mic will do it all. Some are awesome on certain things. Some suck at lots of things. Some are very versatile. I think it's best when starting a mic...

    Home Project Studio gear list...

I agree that the Behringer headphone amp is good. It's also the only piece of Behringer gear that I own (I've owned others and not been pleased). But the headphone amp is worth having.

    Vox Valvetronix

I usually go for a separate head and cab whenever I can. It's nice sometimes to sit in the control room w/ the guitar player in there and be recording the cab in an iso room. Also nice to mix and match.

    Home Project Studio gear list...

Hey man, The new list looks good. I wish those pics were my studio. It was actually a mobile recording that was done in a recital hall at the local college. It is really sweet in there...I've done a few things there and that rooms sounds great. I wish that room was in my studio!

    Home Project Studio gear list...

I think that I would go with the Avalon. You would be suprised how much better any microphone will sound through the Avalon. It's got a very clear open sound, but you can turn down the output trim all the way and crank the input a little more to get a little bigger sound. You might also want...

Mackie inserts as direct outs/returns to multitrack

Only drawback is that it would be unbalanced for long cable runs.

Mics for acoustic guitars and vocals....

I agree that we will not be able to give you "fail-safe" recommendations that are guaranteed to be perfect for you. My favorite guitar mic(s) are a pair of Schoeps CMC6 bodies with MK4 capsules. A pair used will be around $1500-$2000, about $2500 new. Maybe you could just do with one for...

    "turn up my headphones..."

That behringer headphone amp is pretty good...and I hate most behringer stuff. The next step up as far as features is probably the furman hds-6. That unit sends off headphone data via cat5 cable to various headphone stations. Each station has individual control of 4 different channels and the...
