    best acoustic guitar mic

Under $100: mxl 603, octava mc012, or Audio Technica AT2020 Under $200: Audio Technica AT3035 Under $300: Audio Technica AT4040 or Shure KSM-27 Also keep and eye out for the audio technica pro37r. That is a pretty good and under-rated microphone.

I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

Yeah, the ghost is really flexible.

    Vocals, T/c Helicon processor...

I think its one of those tools that if you overuse it can sound like crap. Definitely will not replace properly recorded backing vocals in the studio with good singers. Also, the better you are at tweaking and fine tuning it, the better it will sound.

I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

capnreverb, I think you should try to go the hd24/ghost option. I've mixed a couple of projects through a ghost using the hd24. It's a great setup and provides the efficiency you're looking for. If you check ebay, you could probably get a ghost 24le for around $2k. The preamps, eq, etc is...

    Vocals, T/c Helicon processor...

I don't have much experience with the units you listed, but I can vouch for the TC stuff. You get what you pay for, obviously the more expensive units are going to have more features and a little better sound. They make top of the line effects. Supposedly the Voiceworks is real deal. Have...

Best option to add additional inputs

Well, besides the low quality sound, they have pretty high error rates. I know a few guys who have preamps/channels that cut in and out. There are definitely situations where it makes sense to buy budget gear...we're all on a budget. Sometimes though you just have to draw a line and decide...

Best option to add additional inputs

The presonus digimax lt is going to be the best for the money. If all I could afford was the behringer, I would wait and save my money. I don't know anyone who has been happy with the behringer unit. The presonus has good preamps, convertors, and clock, so it's worth the higher price in my...

    which condenser?

I personally have had experience with the KSM27, AT4040, and GT55. I think that all three of them would be fine choices, with the GT55 probably trailing the pack a little. The ksm27 and 4040 are going to be mics you will probably keep around for a while. They're versatile and have good build...

    Please Help! Pro-tools M-power Fire Wire 1814

I'm not Dot, but....... Firewire will be much better than usb 1.0. It is faster, less latency, and more tracks, if your computer can handle them. M-powered protools seems to be pretty similar to LE. It is great that they finally provided it for other hardware. The firewire 410 and 1814 seem...

    PLEASE HELP...Mic for Strings

Studio Projects stuff is a good value in general, but they are NOT as good as $2000 mics..or even the others mentioned in this thread. I had a C1 for a long time. I never regretted buying it, but I don't have it anymore and I don't regret that either. It was real good on some...

    Audio Technica AT4040

    Audio Technica Pro37r

I've used a pro37 a good bit and it's a decent mic. I've used it on strings, drums, guitar, and others. It isn't usually the absolutely BEST mic for something, but when you've got a bunch of channels you can be sure it's going to sound decent.

    PLEASE HELP...Mic for Strings

As far as the tlm103 and the 4047 go, I like the 4047 better on everything, including strings. I had a pair of tlm103's for a while but sold them. The 4047 is one of my favorite mics. I would go for the 4047 or 4050 for all purpose stuff.

    electric/acoustic guitar- DI or mic?

In my experience with nylons, I've gotten better results with small diaphragm mics that have a little bump in the highs...like the km184 that Track mentioned.

    Best Monitors for under $500

I just had a hard time hearing on them and they didn't translate well for me at all. I know monitors are subjective so some people might really like them. I went from them to Event 20/20's which I liked better, and now I've had the KRK's for about a year and I'm really liking them.

    Source for studio desks?

I like the new Raxxess modular system. It isn't quite as nice as the custom designed argosy stuff, but you will not have to change your furniture later on if you switch boards, etc. I think I'm about to get a setup from Raxxess for my Soundcraft Ghost.
