Taping a PZM to a piano

Use the blue masking tape that you can buy at Home Depot. This stuff is designed not to have adverse effects upon the surface you stick it on. Carl

    Korg Vs. Yamaha Vs. Anyone

The most outstanding feature of the Yamahas are their acoustic piano sounds and their keyboard actions in that regard. Any PSR is crap in my opinion. PSR's by design are targeted at the consumer marker. The built in speakers are a dead give away in that regard. Think about it, have you ever...

    is MIDI really necessary?

MIDI starts out as a choice. I use MIDI everytime. I have to with my keyboard rig. It's mostly controllers talking to modules. However, even if you're all acoustic or just all audio or whatever, you'll find that using an outboard control surface is a huge improvement over just the PC keyboard...

    painting computer monitor...

You can remove the coweling from a CRT without too much problem. I wouldn't paint it while it is still on in any case. There are vents that the paint would get through and lessen the lifespan of your monitor. Carl

    Old Keyboard Experts Please answer.

Aftertouch requires a savy controller. Essentially it allow you to apply some effects by pressing a bit harder on the keys after they have already bottomed out. It's not the same thing you said you wanted from layering. Usually aftertouch adds something like vibrato, brightness, chorus, LFO...

Anyone know anything about Favilla guitars?

Anyone at all? Someone must know something about these Favilla guitars. Perhaps one of you owns or has owned one? Thanks, Carl

Need some advice on recording w/ AlesisQS8

I don't think that there is a software studio on the market that can't do all of those things and much more. If your needs are truly simple you can just buy PG Musics PowerTracks. It's very simple to use and can easily record two audio stereo tracks (with the right hardware). It has a bunch of...

    midi keyboard question

MIDI is not audio. What MIDI does is send event messages from one device to another. Events include playing keys and how hard and for what duration but the actual sounds are not sent through MIDI. You need to send the audio out from your keyboard into the audio in on your recording device. Carl

    Old Keyboard Experts Please answer.

No you don't. When you make splits on the MKS-70 you assign a key for your low splitpoint and another key for your high splitpoint. If they are both the same key you'll get a split right there (say middle C). If your low point is above your high point you'll get a crossover section...

    Old Keyboard Experts Please answer.

Not nessisarily. Like I said, modules such as my own will allow you to create splitpoints on ANY MIDI keyboard. Regardless of the controllers ability to create zones itself. Also, my module will allow me to layer up to two internal sounds in any combination as well as layering the second...

Need some advice on recording w/ AlesisQS8

You need to purchase and audio interface (external or internal) and plug your left and right outputs into it, or barring that just your left mono output into it. On the cheapest cheap you could just send your left output into your soundcards line input. On the not as cheap (much better) you...

    Old Keyboard Experts Please answer.

When the controller falls short, it's up to the module to take up the slack. For instance, I'll talk about something that I know more about. The Roland MKS-70. The MKS-70 is a rackmounted synth module. It is capable of layering by default (A + B). You can set this layering up so that it will...

    totally lost on MIDI

That sounds right. You know that MIDI isn't audio right? When you record the Radio Shack keyboard, you're recording MIDI events (if you set up your software for that) and when you play back it should cause your Radio Shack keyboard to play out of it's own speakers. Carl

Anyone know anything about Favilla guitars?

Particularly Herk Favilla guitars. I know that there was a relationship between the Favillas and the D'aquistos (RIP Jimmy). Other than a few scraps that I could cull from a google search, there really isn't a whole lot of information. Are these good guitars? Do they sound and play well? Are...

Radio Effects - Zaps, swooshes, etc

Well, I recently upgraded to a Roland MKS-70 and am selling my Roland JX-8P for around $300. It has dual DCO's and VCO's in it. Oh, and I've replaced all the internal sounds with factory presets so you won't be getting any of my home made tweaks. Carl

    alesis micron keyboard case?

I don't think that there are any hard cases specificallly designed to cradle something like the Alesis Micron. However, I'm sure if you shop around the SKB, Gator or other case manufacturer you might find something that comes close enough for rock and roll. Carl

Radio Effects - Zaps, swooshes, etc

You hadn't referenced anything specific at all. At least now you've mentioned Star Wars and lasers together. I can tell you that the laser blasts in Star Wars was generated by striking high tension wires on a radio tower with a wrench. I'm also not sure what it is your trying to do...

Radio Effects - Zaps, swooshes, etc

I'm trying to help you. Perhaps you have a link to an example of the kinds of sounds you're looking to recreate? Otherwise all the "bloop bloop bloops" and "whoosh zap bangs" you type into your posts aren't going to get you the answer that you ulitimatly want. Carl

Written onomonopias don't really do any justice to sound. I myself don't have a clue what you're interested in. If I had to guess I'd say a therimin. Carl
