Thanks for the info! Anyone have any input on these MIDI controller/interface combo's? I think M-Audio makes a few of them. Since he is going to college, I want to get him something compact. Most MIDI controllers I know of that have weighted/semi-weighted keys are usually 76-88 keys.

He is pretty good with them. He can usually figure out a problem himself if one comes up. Which reminds me, I think he is running Vista and going to recommend he use REAPER.

Wow, I thought firewire was pretty much standard on every computer for like the past 5-6 years. Yea, buy a firewire card, they are dirt cheap. It'll either slip into one of the PCI slots, or some pin on the motherboard (most likely if you get the card from the same manufacturer as the mobo)...
