Thanks for the info!
Anyone have any input on these MIDI controller/interface combo's? I think M-Audio makes a few of them.
Since he is going to college, I want to get him something compact. Most MIDI controllers I know of that have weighted/semi-weighted keys are usually 76-88 keys.
He is pretty good with them. He can usually figure out a problem himself if one comes up.
Which reminds me, I think he is running Vista and going to recommend he use REAPER.
Hi there, I'm thinking about getting my little brother a recording setup for his graduation in May. He has been playing piano and guitar for like 5 years now and has expressed interest in recording, so I thought I'd get him some gear-- nothing to expensive or fancy though--and figured there is...
If memory serves me correctly, he and someone else kept "following" Southside Glen (pretty sure thats him, one of the guys that everyone knows and is always very helpful) around in the threads he was posting in and would just talk stuff about his engineering and try to discredit everything he...
Well, in case anyone else stumbles across this thread in the future, I found one of these. It is probably the closest I'm going to get to what I'm looking for:

Yea, it has those stupid quick launch buttons, but at least the...
Hi,
I'm looking for a new wirless mouse/kayboard combo my for my DAW. My old set isn't working to well, and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. I figure maybe someone here might have been in the same situtation, and found something similar to what I'm looking for.
I'm trying to find an...
Sorry, I wrote the thread kind of quick, so it is a little vauge. I'd prefer a 2-channel, but if there is a better model in 8-channel, I'd definitely be willing to go that way. But basically, what I'm looking for is a "shoot-out" (really hate using that term, but that seems to be what most...
Hi there, I've found some great "shoot-outs" for DA converters between Apogee, Benchmark, and Lavry, with the Lavry DA-10 coming out on top in almost anyone I could find. I've been trying to find a good side-by-side comparison for a 2-channel to 8-channel AD converter: anyone know of one? I...
The stock sounds on most electronic drums are pretty terrible no matter the price you pay. Even with the expensive TD-20 kits, you still have a pretty bad "machine gun" effect because (to my knowledge) the modules don't have an option to simulate alternate hand drumming, and the cymbals and hh...
Are you having issues with the intergrated video (slowly refreshing when moving windows or scrolling)? If not, I'd stick with it. I think a good rule of thumb for your DAW is the less unnecessary stuff you have on it, the better. The additional video card would just be one more thing taking...
Hi there, I've been reading a little about these units; they sound pretty sweet. I am curious though, do they only work with Apogee converters? That is what it looks like to me, which kind of sucks because I want to throw a Lavry DA-10 on the way out.
Also, I'm assuming one of the reasons...
Wow, I thought firewire was pretty much standard on every computer for like the past 5-6 years. Yea, buy a firewire card, they are dirt cheap. It'll either slip into one of the PCI slots, or some pin on the motherboard (most likely if you get the card from the same manufacturer as the mobo)...
Thanks for the update.
I've been having the same dilemma for a while now: switch to Mac, or not? With these new Apogee Ensemble and Duet units, I've been considering it even more because I've heard nothing but rave reviews about them and have heard of a lot of guys ditching their PT rigs to...
Hi there, you should be able to double-click the speaker icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and click the "mute" button for the microphone. If you go to the properties, in the drop down menu, you should be able to switch between playback and recording, just mute the microphone in...
