    TAXI Whore

wow.......... not bad at all......... needs more energy in that bass guitar. Siblance can get slight out of control with the vocals with the "SSSssss" sounds, But other than that, this KICKS ASS. Very mellow, and sounds very professional. nice and crisp, clean....... i can chill to this.....

    With Marcadiablo's help....

reminds me of an "old" Satriani tune (guitar tone). then the vocals kick in, and it takes a different turn....and has an 'Alice in chains" sound. this is a WELL written song. Im digin' it big time. Over all i think the drums could use a bit more "lift" and "pump" just to drive the song...

    Grounded 4 Life!

lower the vocals a bit. its kewl. i like the funky vibe. At first i though of the band "FISH" when it first started playing. The production is good, .....just get them vocals to fit 'in" the song more, and not above the song.

    Lady In White

it doesnt sound like country to me.....but more like a Beatles tune. for a country tune, i would have liked to hear more of the lap steel guitars up a bit more.... overall, i liked it. Its very organic sounding....nice and clear.

Ok guys and gals, i need some critical listening and serious feedback. Ive gone recorded this album, and for about a month ive mixed/ mastered it myself (please dont kill me yet, i know i should'nt do it all myself), and have gone in and re-mixed, re-mastered SO MANY TIMES.....just trying to...

(mastering) EQ curves of todays music

is it just me or does it seem like alot of todays rock music was mastered a bit on the "middy" side? Im going through my iTunes playlist, and im noticing anything that was produced in the 2000-2006 era, was mastered a bit on the "glassy" high end side of things, like they used some 10k in the...

    Mastering Compression killing drums

to answer the original question (without going astray and talkin about loudness wars again).... yes, certain limiters are better than others.....Ive found way too many limiters which just KILLS transistants, some are worse than others... Sonnox Limiter and Timeworks mastering compressor...

    need advice on recorded guitars

ah yes......the dual mic technique......i use to use it all the time. but now i cant stand it. Honestly, ive tried so much trying to use 2 mics 'up close' to the grill, and when using 2 different mic types.....yur bound to get some sort of phase issue. It may be very minor, but in your own...

    Victim of the loudness war?

if its -13 average RMS, thats not too loud at all. thats right about right for todays 90s and 2000 rock music. Ive heard louder....... I took a song of Linkin Parks new album, and it averaged about -10 to -9 RMS. And ive heard even louder than that (shall i mention the infamous Metallicas...

Ribbon Mics, Backsides, and fliping phases

ok, so lets say im recording 4 guitar rhythm tracks. 2 panned left, 2 panned right. If i use this ribbon mic by itself and record each take/track at a time.....are you saying to flip the phase at my mic preamp, when recording 2 out of the 4 takes? why? i think im growing more confused with...

Ribbon Mics, Backsides, and fliping phases

right.....everything you guys mention makes sense... everything ive researched on the net made it sound like you should flip the phase when using the backside, even if your not using multiple mics. which is why i am so confused as to why do that when using the mic by itself.

Ribbon Mics, Backsides, and fliping phases

Ok, i don understand really why someone has to flip the phase on thieir preamp when recording using the backside of a Ribbon mic. I understand that the backside is the reverse polarity of the ribbon (yadda yadda yadda), but why then flip the phase on the mic preamp? why cant you just use the...

Think I finally got a mix I can listen to

not sure if i jumped in too late.........if this was a done mix or not..... all the drums, bass guitar, and acoustic guitars are perfect.....dont change a thing there. the main vocals........it sounds a bit of weird...... like your using Antares Auto Tune, but its pulling the vocals out of...

I wasn't going to post this

its very intimate.........for sure. My initial listenings found that the song has a VERY open airy sound to it...... yet the kick drum and bass guitar have a very upfront/dry rock approach. The harmony backing vocals sound prestine and crystal clear. everything sounds like its sitting in the...

    Mix check on isle 5!!!!!

i think the real problem lies in the lead guitar, which has an 'octave' effect. Theres alot of low going on it. the rhythm guitars to me just sound so sterile and thin to begin with (not much body/meat)....im afraid to do any cutting in the low end on them.......im actully trying to find a way...

    Mix check on isle 5!!!!!

ok, now i tried to fix it over and over......but nothing was working, so i did what anyone else would have done at this point.... .....re-recorded the BASS. and i must say, it certainly dosnt have any troubles poking out in the mix now......LOL (same link as first post)
