Honestly, with a decent (and properly calibrated) Tascam or Fostex recorder you make some excellent sounding recordings! Be carefull on Ebay!! Most sellers don't even know how to package/ship these things, it's best to try and find something in your local area and check it out to see the...

Hosa I use them, I purchased a whole bunch from musiciansfriend a while back. 3' and 6'. I try not to exceed 6'. :)

Maybe I should just leave it alone...I just opened up the back and it kinda scared me off when I discovered I'm probably going to have to open up the whole thing to access the LED bars.

The signal is definitely high enough ;) 2 of the bars are fine (tracks 3 and 7), then from there there are random non working LEDs. For example track one all but one of them light up, and its below the +6 mark (I think it was, +2).

WOW~Keith thanks for all the great info. So i am assuming you did this on a Fostex 80? Where did you get the LEDs?

A few of the LEDs don't light up on my Model 80 (closer to the top, +3 and +6 area). Are these fairly easy to replace? Where can I get the matching parts?

I guess I'll mix a few songs in the coming weeks, and decide if I need it or not. I don't mind a small bit of hiss, as long as it's not too much.

some progress... Well I ran/recorded some test tones into the 22-2 today from my computer, at -10db 1kHZ showed 0 on the VU meters, I recorded a bit, and the playback was extremely close to 0, just right under it (a hair or two off). 20Hz showed a bit over -3 on the meters (-2?), and the...
