    Fret buzz..Yikes!!

As long as he was loosening it, you are most likely OK. Once the tension is off the rod, turning the nut further doesn't do anything.

    Wow, talk about memories !!!

Is it the one that was on eBay? I was going to post a suggestion that we take up a collection and buy it for you. Seriously. Good for you, Harvey!

-10dB and +4dB are both line levels; it's the difference between "pro" gear and "consumer" gear, and I don't remember which is which. Instrument level is much lower.

OK, but you know, even Hendrix played a Gibson every once in a while. :D

    UGH solo'ing...

I went through much the same process, but for me it was from a Les Paul to an old Strat. But did you hang onto the Paul? I got mine back out after it sat a few years in a case under the bed, and playing it again was like getting back with an old girlfriend. Now they are both out on stands and...

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

When you said earlier, "The most important thing, first of all, is speaker choice.", that's just not necessarily so. Speakers are just one variable; just because you couldn't get the effect you wanted out of a particular speaker in a particular context, that doesn't mean that same speaker won't...

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

Lots of midrange, I agree with. Humbuckers and sustain, yes, in my experience. I don't think it's necessarily speaker specific, though. I've made this thing happen on a variety of amps and speakers. In my experience, waving my hand around in front of the pickup without touching the strings...

    Adding Insulation to a Cab

That's true, but it may not be the bass response of the cabinet he finds objectionable, but resonance, where the cabinet rings like a bell at certain frequencies. Adding insulation can improve the sound of a poorly designed cabinet that has a strong resonance peak. In addition to increasing...

Well, rack mounted gear does generally want to see line level, while stompboxes can use instrument level signals, and some of them will distort if you feed them a line. Otherwise there are no rules.

To you, maybe, but there's lots of ways to build a sound. Delaying the distortion sounds different than distorting the delay, true enough.

Or, as the Uranium Savages say at Spamorama, every girl's crazy 'bout CHOPPED PRESSED HAM! :D

    Any Favorite Acoustics?

Um... what? I think that is especially true when we "choose" a woman (though we men never really do that, it's the other way round). I got really lucky in that respect (37 years and counting), but that's another story... :D

    5 string bass question...

FWIW, last night I restrung my Epic 5 with Rotosound "66" Swing Bass strings with a .130 B for the first time, and now the B sounds and feels just like the other 4 strings. The effect that sparked this thread is, for me, on this particular 34" scale bass, totally gone. YMMV, of course, but I'm...

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

One thing that can help a guitar go into feedback is vibrato (the string bending kind, not the Fender amp kind). It's another way to keep feeding a bit of energy into the string.

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

I don't think using an ebow is cheating at all. It's an effect, like flanging or distortion, to be used when it gives the appropriate sound for the song. I use mine live on a couple of songs.

    Yarrgghhh

Sure, it can't hurt to do some research. It might spur you to try something different that you may not have thought of, and what you try might work for you. Ignorance is never a good thing, IMO. :D
