    Pro Tools....sigh

They have a driver available from their website that's called the digi asio driver or something like that. Basically it's a driver that allows sound that would normally playback through your computer's soundcard to playback through your mbox or digi001/02 or whatever digi hardware.

    Vinnie Paul sound.

I think vinnie paul still uses remo pinstripes on his toms. On the kick, he uses a danmar plastic pad and a wooden drum beater. The toms and the kick drum are heavily scooped between 315 and 400. Also, to get that flabbyness he has in his kick drum sound, the resonant head is only finger tight.

    elliot smith style vocal recordings?

elliott smith had a very quiet singing voice. So what you're hearing on his records is grit from the mic pre (especially on the silibants) and a judicious amount of compression. Nearly all of his vocal stuff was doubled.

    travis barker from blink 182

Travis is playing the current blink tour with a broken right foot. He has two high hats, an open and closed one and plays his kick drum with his left foot on a double bass pedal. that's whackass good.

    Using movie samples -- legal?

whether or not it's legal depends. There's a "fair use" clause regarding copyrighted works. I'm not sure the exact stipulations for movies, but the part you are sampling is legal if it is less than a percentage of the whole and how much the sample is associated with the movie. For example...

Has anybody ever had the pleasure of playing orange county drums??

Yes, one of my friends owns one and I used to own a 20 ply snare. IMO their sets are nothing special at all. They're nothing that you or I could build ourselves (if you're handy that is). DW is much better quality. the only good think about OCDP is that you can get whatever the hell color...
