    Tascam 2488Neo Effects Question

FWIW it's pretty hard to beat the utility of a Tascam 2488neo unless you go full hog into computer recording for a whole lot more $$.

    Does anyone make Plate Reverb?

    Tascam 2488Neo Effects Question

Welcome to the digital age, most of the techniques you used on the old machine will transfer, except this one. The input section does allow inserting effects but you would need to route the returns to another input/channel/track from the processor to a track to record. If you need to record or...

    Tascam 2488 "direct out" function

I think you have found your own solution, recording the computer tracks to dummy tracks is a lot more convenient than always having to keep your machines in midi sync.

Bass players -with very light touch

As a bass player I understand what you mean, it took a lot of work to get my playing "right" for recording. There is a whole school of light touch players, but it is a complicated thing that also takes the right set up and signal chain as well as the touch. It is hard for players to develop...

    Microphone for Tascam DP-008

I have a pair of MXL V63M mics that are used with a Tascam 2488/2 with really good results. Have used them to record several vocalists male and female as well as over heads for drums, ambient mics for live recording and for acoustic guitars. With proper placement and a good mic pre they sound...

Cheap Amps You Wish You Had Never Sold...

Yamaha G100-112- Early 80's what a sweet sounding amp, sure it was solid state but with a tune OD up front it was awesome. Yamaha practice amp, don't recall the model number also early 80's but it was in a blonde wood case with a plastic 'wicker' speaker grill, switchable overdrive and reverb...

    Kick mic vs Snare mic.

getting a mic on the kik is essential for almost any mix, fwiw my current fave bass drum mic is pretty cheap and useful for other things as well CAD KBM412. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/CAD-KBM412-Bass-and-Kick-Drum-Microphone?sku=270774

Do you use amp modeling instead of amp?

Do you use amp modeling or multi-effect instead of amp for recording? I know it is a terrible concept because we all love our amps but still.... Personally I don't have the big bucks or space to deal with all the truly wonderful amps out there, and the volume levels needed would get the cops...

    Poor acoustic results

A lot depends on the pickup in your guitar, some of the new stuff sounds pretty good plugged in and mixed with a mic.

I have a SM48 with a switch and I use it for announcements and such and the occasional guest vocalist works just great.

    combo amps

There are too many DI choices these days, but IMO the Countryman Type 85 is still the gold standard since it sounds very good, seems to work with anything: active or passive basses, ae guitar, keyboards...; virtually indestructable and still reasonably priced.

    Recording some Hippies

Getting a DI signal from the instruments will ensure that you can have separation then all you have to sweat is bleed from the other instruments in the drum mics. Still use the mics on the instruments for ambience and such.

    if you had...

Mesa Bass 400+ with a Powerhouse cab is my dream amp but for an 8x10 I'd probably go with a Mesa Bog Block 750 or Titan V-12. GK, Mark, SWR, EDEN all make great bass amps. But really anything but a (Viet N)Am-peg is okay by me.

My new favorite 'phones for tracking

Doing the same sort of thing here, 'cept my choice is Koss Spark Plugs. I use the same set up for tracking, setting up mics in the line of fire.

    Power amp tubes

EL84 and 6L6 are somewhat interchangeable and probably what confused the douche at GC. For any tube amp having a good amp tech is a must, and your amps best friend. A speaker change or cab tweak might help to tighten up the low end some but the charm of any amp with EL34 tubes is the tone that...

Great video, we also get to see lots of MM working his magic. I was wondering how long into the song before he started to slap.
