    tone difference in punch-ins?

I experience this very often. Generally, I just use the little handle on the punch clip to pull it up until it sounds right. I think it's the guitar or bass player laying back a little, as it seems to happen most with them, not so much with vocalists or keys. I use Cubase SX as well, and I...

For trade: Groove Tubes Brick - NIB, interested in all offers

Hi, I hope I'm not violating any forum rules. I'm a GT dealer, and have several Bricks that I'm interested in trading for more cool gear (I'm an engineer, and always looking for new gadgets. I became a GT dealer just because I really like their gear.) Anyway, make me an offer, if you're...

    Punchy Toms

I don't usually have a problem getting toms to punch through when they're by themselves. Most problems creep up when you have snare and cymbals bleeding into the tom mics and making your extreme eq/compression/saturation type stuff go nuts. Of course, I've managed to improve my mic placement a...

    Behringer V-Amp Vs POD

I was just relating my experience. I imagine that using the gate and tweaking the setting swould have solved some of the noise issue, I was jsut surprised that it was noticeably noisier than a Marshall with a LOT of gain. As far as "guts", I suppose I am feeling like it misses some of the lower...

    Behringer V-Amp Vs POD

I do sessions now and again where the guitarist has some really aweful sounding setup, so I'm interested in some sort of "Plan B" type device. I think the SansAmp GT-2 sounds the most even with the least noise, from the samples I've heard. I used a Behringer V-Amp Pro thing on a session, and it...

    'Roughing up' sampled drums?

I seem to recall that the HiFi track on VHS is actually very high quality audio track. So it does sound a good deal better than Audio cassette. The regular audio tracks are more like traditional cassette, however. When I was younger, we used to take our HiFi VHS deck to the studio, and make a...

Firewire Enclosure with Removable Drive Trays

I've had a few people ask me about where I got mine, so I thought I'd post it. I apologize in advance if there's a better place to post this... There are a couple of pics attached... The first one is the enclosure with one of the drive trays inserted, there's a second tray on top. The second...

    DIY thread.....

I'm gonna go get a couple myself! I always end up hanging t-shirts and jackets on the boom end as counter weights! Does anybody make a super heavy, biggish mic stand base, with the standard threads? I like the triangle ones, and one I saw at TapeOpCon had a 30lb base (for $800!). But I'd be...

outlandish ideas to promote yourself and your music

I think you have to do something outrageous at your show, something that might piss some people off, get the media's attention, etc. I remember when I was in high school, there was a band at my school called "Boom and the Legion of Doom." They played a Humane Society benefit, and halfway...

    Recording Software

There are tons of programs, you just have to mess with them all. I first learned Sound Designer on the Mac, way back about 15 years ago. Then I bought Deck II, becausee I was broke and it was cheap. It worked fine, I was able to do perfectly acceptable recordings (though it was limited to 16...

Best Sounding Album of all time

Shellac's 'At Action Park' sounds amazing on a good stereo, cranked up a bit. It was mastered with lots of headroom, so the dynamics are great, if you turn it up! Nevermind that it's one of the few rock records that sounds like the band is right there in front of you.

    Compression Experts Please Come Forward

Anybody care to chime in on chaining compressors? I often use a compressor set with a lowish ratio, to get 3 or 4 dbs reduction, then take that and hit it a little harder (higher ratio), with a little less reduction. I find it makes the compression less "obvious". Of course, this is on Jack...

Even better, call yourself "Open Mic Nite"! Either that or "Job Fair" "Charity Casino Night" what about a brand name. I though it would be funny to name your band after a product, use the logo and everything We are Kellogg's Rice Krispies We are the 2005 Ford F1 Pickup Truck We are Scotch...
