So what software would be ideal for me / the guys in the band

Currently using a older version of N-Track and have tried Reaper and Audacity and can't say anything bad but, Mixcraft 5 is a pretty good investment for the money as well. I've checked out their Tech Support board as well and they truly do seem to respond to inquiries and resolve problems quickly.

USB Inteface -- must it have MIDI inputs?

The hardware was really simple to setup. I had been using an older version of N-Track that I had been considering upgrading but, after hearing Mixcraft 5 mentioned several times, I decided to check it out for myself. I'm pretty much sold. After the 14 day trial ends, I'll be ordering it...

USB Inteface -- must it have MIDI inputs?

That's how mine works. Pretty basic but, it gets the job done! Remember, Craigslist can be your friend!

USB Inteface -- must it have MIDI inputs?

Noob myself but, I'll describe my setup. Maybe it'll help. I bought a used M-Audio Fast Track II interface and have it connected to my PC via USB. I also have an M-Audio KeyRig 49 MIDI keyboard connected via a seperate USB port. Mics and instruments get recorded thru the interface and the...

    GC Recording Workshops

Attended my second one this past Saturday........Looping and virtual instruments. Came away with more knowledge that I went in with so I'd have to say, for the price, definitely worth it. I really like how there's no high pressure sales pitch to buy Mac stuff. I have to admit though that...

So what software would be ideal for me / the guys in the band

I downloaded the 14 day trial version over the weekend and it seems very powerful and user friendly. It seems to have a "Garage Band" kind of vibe going on. Seems fairly intuitive too. SERIOUSLY considering making the investment.

    PC VS Mac

^ This is the correct answer!

BIG--> Why do MAC's tend to have less issues than PC's ???

Really? Who said??? The first thing you need to do is to dismiss the notion that one is better or more or less capable than the other for recording and understand that no matter which platform you choose, it's only a tool to accomplish a task. I've recently been attending the free home...

mic interference / fasttrack usb interface (M-Audio)

Sorry to hear the news but I hope I was able to help you out???? FYI....I just bought a used Fast Track II (in the US) from Craigslist for $35. Don't know if you have such a thing across the pond but going used is an option. Best of luck!

New Member, Hi Everybody, listing my cheap gear... suggestions please!

Monitors for sure. On a budget......consider used. Craigslist can be your friend. Considered "entry level" but, I just picked up a set of used M-Audio AV40 monitors for $65. Entry level gear but, that's where I'm at......entry level.

mic interference / fasttrack usb interface (M-Audio)

If you've ALWAYS had this problem with Fast Track, can you borrow an interface from a friend to try swapping out with yours? If it does it with every mic, sounds like you may have narrowed it down to either the mic input/output of the Fast Track or the DAW.

mic interference / fasttrack usb interface (M-Audio)

Understood about using the recommended cabling but, have you tried replacing them? Not trying to bust you but, you MUST isolate it in the signal chain if you want to eliminate it. It's possible it's a DAW issue but, being it's intermittent, that's going to require patience. You may have to...

mic interference / fasttrack usb interface (M-Audio)

Sorry but, being a noob, I can't offer more help than I have but, as you can see, by your own words, you've already invested money to "minimalize" the problem but it still hasn't resolved it. If I may, I'll exhort that you MUST work your way the the signal chain to isolate and then, resolve the...

    GC Recording Workshops

Went to one in the Warwick, RI store a few weeks ago. Being a noob, it was a great way to get info on building a foundation to get started. As soon as the class ended, I bought an M-Audio KeyRig 49 on the way out and, in the ensuing weeks, picked up a used set of M-Audio AV-40 monitors and an...

mic interference / fasttrack usb interface (M-Audio)

Have you tried a different mic and/or cable? How about recording direct, no interface involved? How about the cables connecting the Fast Track to your PC? I'm a noob around these parts but not to troubleshooting. My advice would be to try and isolate the component/device causing the...

    USB interface: question.

Craigslist can be your friend! I just bought an M-Audio Fast Track II, no software, for $35. Works great though, not QUITE as plug and play as it's advertised but, it is pretty simple to setup and sounds great.......to my green ears anyway!
