Another Attempt at Comic Book Heroes in a Different Mixing Room
Here is another attempt at "Comic Book Heroes" that I mixed in a different mixing environment. Let me know if it is better than the previous ones. Mix 82 has more bass than 81. Plz lmk which one you think is better.
thx
Thanks to everyone above for making me re-examine the way I've been treating the mix at the 2-buss, and your all right - over compressed and overcooked overall. I have been busy with a paradigm shift in the way I mix now, as I am paying more attention to my LV meter and Sonalksis Free G Meter...
Here is a song called "Comic Book heroes." Please let me know what can come up or down in this mix. The higher the mix number, the more recent the mix (and, hopefully, an improvement.)
thx
Good anti-drug song. Mix is good, but if you attenuated the 2.5 to 3k region a bit on the 2-buss, it would sound less "scratchy". Also could use a tad of reverb on vox, just for glue (but my tastes only).
Here is my latest effort, and a response to Tadpui's request to have the rhythm guitar more present. Also, because members are critiquing a variety of genres in this forum, I will submit these hard rock, metal mixes with the gain reduced to about -10 rms, but with the same DR as the original...
Thx, JohnnyWayne for your input. I have been a little liberal with the stereo field of the drums, so maybe I can close them in. I do, however, want some left to right movement (drummer perspective) from hi to low toms, but I will round up ant "lone" instruments sticking out too hard L or R...
Here another mix of Damned if I Do (Don't) with more girth on the drums, as I experimented with the room mics. I have a "ready for CD" version, which is somewhat mastered (and loud), and an EM (electronic medium) version, which is less compressed, and ready for iTunes' RMS/LUFS automatic...
Better Mixes for Damned if I Do? lmk
Ok guys, thanks again for your input. I have two more mixes that I hope will address some of your issues with this track.
Mix 39 is a CD ready mix with cymbals up, more drive in the bass w/o dist, less verb on lead vox, and instrumentation playing "nice'...
Everything sounds good in this mix, but the energy may be too constant, and thus, "fatiguing" It may be too late, but you might consider a "breakdown" of some sorts, where half the instrumentation drops out, then comes back in again.
Good song
Here is a Version of Damned If I Do that is Mastered, but no Clipping
Here is a Version of Damned If I Do that is Mastered, but no Clipping
-.30 peak
-6 rms
Here is the lowered volume version of Damned IF I Do (Don't)
Here is a version of Damned If I Do (Don't) that isn't clipping or "squished", but now does not have that low-mid "push", so still a work in progress.
Ok guys, thanks for your input. I now have two more version for you. I noticed that I did have overs on that mix, and squashed it with too much. These next two are better in the sense that they aren't as overly aggressive and have more dynamic range. 1) is closer to a mix that would be...
