I have the Steinberg CI2, came with a "light" version of Cubase 5 (that one does not have to use, of course). Two ins, two outs, phantom power. Connects via USB. Real simple.
The easiest way would be a 12-track interface/professional soundcard. If you need all 12 tracks seperately. If it´s only for the conversion to mp3 and the mixing has been finished, a normal stereo (2-track) interface would be enough.
Due to the nature of things, imo a sequencer will always have a certain degree of not-simple-ness ...
Here´s one for free that looks as if it could be a good starting point - have not tried it myself though

"4-Track" meant you could turn the tape over and have two tracks playing in the opposite direction. These are simple stereo, home hi-fi devices, to use like you uysed a cassette recorder. Everybody had one of these when I was young. Never heard of the Realistic, it sems to have some extra inputs...
5 mics don´t go "straight" into a tc 377 - it has 2 line ins and 2 mic ins, right? There has to be some mixing console involved and you´ll probably have to give the mics enough "gain" on there. But please, give us more information on your setup ...
I went digital in '98 - going back to analog made me realize that the workflow suits me better. I have to rewind the tape and use the time for thinking about what I'll do next ... I tend to prepare better because getting rid of an error is not just "Apple-Z" or a click with the mouse ... If you...
Without being an expert in any sense!!! I guess that you'd get the best sound if you took one channel (of the 2track tape) from tracks 1 through 4, and the other channel from tracks 5 through 8.
I´ll try to get it then. Maybe bid 50 Euros and see what happens. It is a bit of GAS because I´m not unhappy at all with the sound that I am getting now. You´re all above that of course ;) but it looks so cute and has wooden sides and everything so it´s hard to resist.
Yes I found that out in the earlier threads (hence my "goldmine" allusion). Question is, what would someone like you guys who know and have tried all this be willing to spend for such a unit, given that I already have the dolby NR built-in to my Fostex M80? Is it worth it at all?
OK this place is a goldmine (knew that already ;)) ... awful lot of info to be gotten!! Last question about this item, how much would you offer for it? More like 10, more like 100, or even more? Just for a rough idea ...
Not sure this has anything to do with it but I ust found this ...

Yes thanks - I hadn´t thought of this but I have to think of the things that I encounter one by one! I did a session with myself today and managed to
1 - record on to the tracks I wanted to record to (!)
2 - stop doing crack - Oops! Mike Keneally (scambot 1) keeps turning up in my mind...
Yes you pointed that out to me once already and I had just read it ... I think I understand it now! Thanks sweetbeats - sometimes I have to think your sig is aimed at me ;)
So I´m trying to get to grips with this setup now and have re-read all your advice (thanks once again!) ... but what exactly is the advantage of going to the Tape In through the Program out? Why not take Direct out instead? I bought a manual but it will take some time to arrive and I will have...
Of course I mean the TASCAM. Didn´t know the thing was so HUGE! Grabbed a helmet when getting it across the doorstep but my woman didn´t hit me after all ;)
Am trying to get to grips with the connection thing and everything - there is much I do not udnerstand yet (although this was a great...
