A 40x CDROM is only about $40. They are so inexpensive nowadays. Worth the $ so you can make CD to CD copies. (and also quickly read the video files on some of the new video games)

    Question about a CD Writer...

Hold on here. Do you already have an internal HP CD-RW? If you do then use that. About getting your stuff onto the computer. Does your computer have a SCSI slot in the back? I not, then a card or adapter can be bought so you can hook up your VS directly to your computer. A SCSI card for...

    Live Recording

I just did something very similar this weekend and made some good results. essentially: 2 mics =>2 ears 1) Panning : locate the band the way you want to hear them. All amps facing towards the center of a wide circle. Each in their appropriate L->R space. 2) "Fading" : adjust the quieter...

    Odd sound quality problem

It may be the 424's pre-amps When I listen to my guitar through the headphone outs on my multi-effects pedal, it always sounds very good. When I plug the line out of my effects pedal to an input on the 424mkIII and listen with headphones through that, the sound quality ranges from good, to...

    Removing tape hiss

A noise gate is not the best because it will work only on silent points. When there is music, there will be hiss. Use the various parametric EQ and sweep around till the hiss is lessened. (try 4000hz)

How do you record to a VCR

Look at the link on this sites homepage: * A reader tests VHS to see just how good it really is. Much is explained there. Be relaxed about those tipa, once you get the hang of how your HiFi VCR works, you can be more relaxed about the whole thing. The quality of the VHS tape is important too.

Tascam 488, Compression effects on db levels?

I don't have a dedicated compressor and do not know much about them but here goes: A compressor takes the input signal and lowers all the loudest parts, then it makes everything louder together. Result: the dynamic range between the quietest and loudest part is reduced. The VU meter on your...

    looking for better sound quality

I'm concerned about your quest. My opinion, forget about the "uummph" of a radio sound. Radio is not that good sounding. Focus on replicating the sound of well recorded CD releases. That should be the goal. The radio stations take those CDs, compress them to a dynamic range of about 5 Db and...

    Tascam 424MKII as everday Mixer?

A 424mkII in good condition should be an ok mixer. To test: listen to your CD player direct. listen to it through the 424mkII the 424 adds a slight noise but it is so small. To test your sound card: - listen to a cassette or CD player through the line in on the sound card...

    424II, direct vs. buss

That reason plus one can record on each track without having to re-patch the mixer. Ie. the mic stays plugged into channel 1 while I now record on to track 2 through the Buss R feature. Reduces the hassle and wear of channel "Plug in Plug out"

    MD deck to 4-track?

The 424mkII has those RCA Submix inputs for a reason. (c:! 3 ways to do it: 1) MD RCA -> 424mkII RCA Submix input. Record Buss L and Buss R. 2) RCA -> 1/4" to channels 1-4 recorded direct or bussed 3) RCA -> 1/4" to additional line inputs 5-8 recorded bussed L and R.

    424 mkII new user

I'm not related to SA. Dragon sold me on the 424mkII as well. (It's a long story but I had it replaced free of charge with the mkIII after a few weeks) To add effects to separate tracks, no bouncing is required. Use the two effects send knobs for each tracks. If you have two separate...

Analog vs Digital - yadda yadda...

Alot of what rock musicians say is hype and involves being "trendy, stylish and cool". In the studio with the multi-tracks and the expensive monitors, a difference can be heard (different does not mean better or worse) but by the time you get it in your CD player and home stereo the difference...

Condenser overheads getting too much snare...

That backward smiley face with a nose is Awsome! (c: Wow!! About the hi-hat What about moving the mics away from the hi hat slightly and angling them so they pick up less. They are directional mics right? If this does not work. Try reversing your philosophy. You tune your hi-hats...

    Muffled while in Dolby

Compact cassette is still a strong format polularity and convenience wise, but in my opinion spending even $300 + to try and fix a compact cassette sound is not worth it. For the the price of those noise eliminators ($700 U.S.) one can buy portable minidisc recorder/player AND a 2x2x6 CD-rw...

    Sound quality of Tascam 414

Is it like an "accompanyment noise". Silence when you don't play, but when you play something you hear some noise with the guitar? Is this not noticeable when you are playing the tape at a low volume but when you play it back at a high vokume you hear it? The 424mkII and mkIII do something...
