Let's keep it simple, of very easy use and of high quality.
How about a portable minidisc recorder with a good external stereo mic? Just plop the pocket sized recorder on the music holder, and place the external mic on the top of the piano. Press play/record and off you go. Bad cuts can be...
make sure the amp is connected to Effect Send2 /Tape Cue output. (effect 1 will not work as a tape cue)
Was track 1 recorded hot? (see the LED levels)
Put effect send to about 2 o'clock position. Switch the monitor switch to tape cue and have the monitor level (headphone knob) up till the...
You mean "overdubbing" not multi-tracking.
One can record live to 16 tracks for later mix down.
The dull stuff happens when a band overdubbs to often and too much. Borring basic drum beats that do not adapt to interact with soloists etc...
I agree with your assesment.
What the overdubbing...
I highly recommend the live to stereo method, followed by the live to stereo with an aid. I usually do two mics in B-ear position to two track.
1) does not your 4 track have a built in mixer? what kind is it?
You only really need two mics for the entire band, but if you want more (much...
I suggest taking the time to download the manual for the 424mkII offered on this site. That manual is very well written, as is the manual for the 424mkIII save for a few typos and errors.
On my 4 track cassette, I can record "direct"
This means that the mixer channel is equated to the recorder track.
If you want to record "direct" to track 6, then you must plug the desired input into input 6 on the mixer.
When I was shopping for a mic in January for guitar and general recording live use this is what I went through.
SM57: but wait the Sm58 is the same mic with a better handle and a ball for vocals.
SM58: I'll get this one Salesman "naw, the 8 is ok but the Audio Technica 41-HE is better. Here...
Never heard of it.
Audio Technica does make good mics.
Ask to borrow it for a day or two and decide upon how it sounds. If it is good then buy it.
Why do you call him a clown?
If he is, maybe he does not know what he is selling, therefore he may be giving you a great deal.
If the mic...
I do not have the FD8 , but what it reads like is that you are bouncing tracks useing the buss feature and panning. Select Mon and not L-R.
but If you are multi tracking and overdubbing yourself then record using the Direct feature. Each input will have its own track.
If you are doing a...
1) When you have stuff lpugged in all the inputs and you want to record a specific channel on another track without unplugging an replugging anything. eg. channel one on track 2. Then channel one on track 3, then channel on track 4. You pann channle one according the the bess of each track...
There is a lot of redundancy in your proposed setup. Why buy a dedicated mixer and then a mixer/recorder?
It seems better to me to buy either one mixer/multitrack recorder like the MD8, or one mixer, and one modular multitrack recorder such as a reel to reel 8 or 16 track, a Da-x8, or an ADAT...
DO NOT record in a dead room, the quartet players will hate it and play badly. As a result your recording will sound bad.
Get a live room. Ask the players for their favourite location and set up there.
How many tracks do you have?
If 6 or more, then do a comparison.
SAMPLE A: stereo...
One strong argument in favour of a stand alone HD recorder like the VS88EX, VS 1680 or Akai DPS12, is RESALE VALUE.
In 5 years will still be able to sell those machines for 60% of their purchase price. And their resale value will never drop to being "worthless", as 4 track cassette units still...
If you are not currently using a mic pre-amp how are you getting the vocals on the computer? By using the "mic in" on the soundcard? That is a weak link right there. Try a better pre-amp before you go for a better mic.
on the 424mkII and the 424mkIII a "Cleaning Mode" can be activated to assist in cleaning.
Turn the 488 off.
Hold down STOP and RHL (rehearsal) buttons
Turn the 488 on.
Cleaning mode will be activated and when you press PLAY the transport and roller will move in position.
This is all just to...
I ahave been experimentng with a friend'd omni, the old large metal Realistic PZM mics. The sound is definately much more even than my "vocal directional" mic. Minimal bass boost. But the onmi need a lot more acoustic volume to get going. Live in a band will be great for recording. Enough...
The "transport protection lever" is most likely the plastic sheet that covers the cassette compartment. Big words for a common part we most often never verbally label.
Just press the EJECT button, PLAY and clean away.
That is hot, but are you monitoring the SOURCE levels (incoming signal, or the TAPE levels (what is actually recorded). There is usually a drop off of about 3 to 6 dbu between the Source and the Tape levels.
On a regular cassette deck, chrome (type II) tapes can take frequent peaks of +3 dbu. Set those cassette levels hotter. Very short spikes of more than +3 dbu can be ok too.
Get that cassette mixdown as hot as you can without saturation.
Type IV tapes are even more robust.
