Jimi, sing it in your normal register, play the song a little slower and make it sound really sleazy. That would be a cool and interesting cover.

    Foundation nightmare and studio rebuild

Jimmy, you know I'm a professional geologist right? If you want any more info on the compressive soil issue feel free to ask.. Actually, I'll do the short summary as its worth people knowing. Clay or Silt soils (cohesive soils - i.e. not sand or gravel) are prone to swell and shrink due to...

Which Audio Interface should I go for under $120

Focusrite seem to have underestimated just how hot some modern pickups are and the amount of people that just DI and use amp sims... although saying that I use a Duncan JB, while its very hot, its also quite an old pickup design. You're right they should have worked this out in advance. Another...

Teenage Girlfriend - Glam covers glitch punk

Steve, this sounds much better now. I'm sitting in work listening on Senns and getting into it a lot more. I think the drums are a tiny bit too dry now - only a bit though. The guitars and vocals sit much better together.

Cheers Miner - I'm pleased with that one too - hopefully gonna re-track it this weekend as there's a few little errors in the playing on the Washburn 'cos I'm not used to it. I also want to write the solo parts properly as they were just first take adlibs - which sound OK, but the timing isn't...

Greg, I think you've got the sound there really good. The only thing I don't like is the delay; can hear it slapping a bit too much, its cool when you're chugging - think it just thickens it, but in the descending licks and the transitions between the riffing and chords its sticks out a bit much!

Teenage Girlfriend - Glam covers glitch punk

Alright mate, cool tune but I'm getting the same feeling as I get with the other ones. Vocals seem too far in front of the band to me, and the guitars don't seem like they have that much punch. Its probably just a difference in the way that we like things though as I've said the same thing about...

    2017 Gibsons

I did try one which didn't have a birds all over it or a horrid burst. Was alright until I plugged it in. I dialed in a sound I liked using my guitar, liked how a LP Studio sounded with similar settings. The PRS had absolutely no balls in comparison. ---------- Update ---------- There is - I...

Island Hopping with easlern and ibleedburgundy

Doesn't sound like there's anything really wrong with this, the left guitar is possibly a little close, but only 'cos my attention was drawn to it. I wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't pointed out.

I'm definitely not that guy! Its pretty obvious when people are just regurgitating shit they've heard in YouTube videos.

No, no no no no!!!! Surely you should be going for the Blink 182 signature model? (to be fair, its actually quite nice) I just want a 2nd guitar that is an alternative to my Crimson. My Ibanez is OK, good for metal palm muting but I think it has ceramic magnets which is why it sounds a bit thin...

    The New Tone Thread

Its good to get advice, 'cos you try things you might not have thought of. Seems to work best by posting something that you're already relatively happy with though and just trying out suggestions as you find them. The most important part of the process seems to be to put some time into getting...

    2017 Gibsons

Ah... the words of a committed fan-boy! I just like Les Pauls to look classic - preferably with no binding, pickguard or other adornments. Was pretty much going to buy a mexican tele last week, now I want a Les Paul Studio again.

That's not obviously helpful, But its encouraging which is helpful in itself. I just don't really understand what people are going on about half the time. All I want to do is generally mix together two rhythm guitar tracks, a lead track, a bass line, some drums and some vocals. People are...

    2017 Gibsons

LOL - No they didn't really! We realised that Creed/Nickelback were fake/hideous commercially driven rock and have barely got into a new band since. I know you don't see it on Les Pauls, but at that style of staining is really associated with awful metal guitars. I bet ESP do their Les Paul...

    2017 Gibsons

LOL - you keep mentioning these bands like you expect me to be a fan! I just looked them up... they're very... eh, "fashionable"... cunts. I'll try listening to them later. You got to admit though, that's shiny green stain does look like something a modern "alternative" (new mainstream) rock...

Looks like a PRS or a Sheckter. Just needs some birds on the fretboard or some active pickups.

    Can Someone Explain the basics

Because I've never tried any mastering until the last week or so I have ended up mixing some of my songs quite loud (as I had no idea what a mastering limiter was or did). Even though none of the individual tracks are clipping they were sometimes a couple of db in the red on the master fader...

Which Audio Interface should I go for under $120

I have a Focusrite2i2 and its very solid and completely reliable, very good driver support from Focusrite and they offer you a nice little suite of VST plugins to play with. Saying that, I still use all of the standard plugins that come with Reaper (my DAW) instead of any of the Focusrite ones...

    Can Someone Explain the basics

OK, had a fiddle with JS:Mastering Limter in Reaper. Seems pretty handy and easy to use and I'm getting used to the effects that adjusting some parameters have a how a mix sounds. Some mixes immediately work well and are improved just by applying the limiter then I can adjust parameters to...
