You'd probably like the tone anyway - it does sound like a very loud amp being completely screwed.

    The New Tone Thread

Does sound good - but it does sound like Neil Young too! Particularly when you chug on a couple of chords just after the 1 minute mark. This is the Neil Young song it reminded me of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5bVvSBS6R0 It actually sounds quite a lot like The Who live... which isn't...

    Mexican Teles

I had an hour spare at the end of the day yesterday and ended up visiting a couple of shops so played on a bunch of Telecasters - Mexican ones, American "specials" - these are a step down from the standard but above the Mexicans. I also played on a 52 reissue. 1. They all sounded great. 2. The...

Guys. This is really handy. I'll read it again when I'm in front of my recording computer

Paranoid - (slightly punk) Black Sabbath Cover

LOL, I know my singing is shite. I think the cymbals are in the same places as the original - I was listening to it as I was programming the drums. I haven't worked out how to bring the level of a mix up to a level like a commercial mix yet.

Of course its subjective, but then I like Bastard Azul so I'm interested to know what you want to hear from my mix - you're clearly capable of doing something I like! You've heard various other songs, coming out in the Tone Thread too, which are fairly similar to No Choice so I'd like to really...

    The New Tone Thread

Ray, a few days ago you suggested some sans-amp style bass thing that was a copy of a well known one but I can't find the thread where you mentioned it... can you maybe email me a link to it so I won't lose the bloody thing! Cheers,

Regarding reverbs - I'll probably drop them all right back, to nothing, bring them up to where I can just hear them, then move them back just to the edge of being obvious then work from there. "clarity and definition. Some air. Some shine" This is all pretty subjective stuff... I can't do...

Right, listening to both mixes back to back. Along The Way - I (think) I can hear: Two hand panned double tracked rhythms. (with too much verb) Kick drum centred with the rest of the kit spread around it between the guitars. Centred bass Centred Vox Lead guitar just off centre with a bit of...

I guess the best place to start is to listen to them both back to back and see if I can work out how they are different, what the differences are in the mixing. I guess I've just not got enough experience of listening to mixes critically to work out what people are doing. I was listening to...

Cheers, Greg. I'll look into the reverbs next. That lead line in the verse was mainly to generate a bit of feedback - I'll either turn it down a bit or try something a bit different. The backing vocal is full of mistakes - I ended up chopping together a few different takes there - my singing is...

Which Audio Interface should I go for under $120

Cool, when you start recording some guitar parts, post them up in "The New Tone Thread" in the Guitars & Basses section. You'll get good advice on to how to improve your tone.

No one wants to listen to Dream Pop anymore...

Its pretty minimal so there's not much mix to comment on as such. Everything sounds well recorded and it is an interesting piece of music though. After a while I was just doing some work and it just drifted into the background - so nothing in the mix stood out as annoying me.

Gents, I've just a total re-mix on an earlier song of mine "No Choice" based on various comments on both it and other mixes lately. Can you take a listen when you get 2:40. Cheers,

Paranoid - (slightly punk) Black Sabbath Cover

OK, I've stuck another slight re-mix up to address the overly loud hi hats, the snare not quite cutting through and the bass/kick getting in eachothers way.

Cheers, I'll have another listen to it this morning with fresh ears and see if I can here some of the things people have picked up

Well the vocal is doubled and verbed. Trying to emulate the effect of the original. I'll look out for the other bits.
