    The New Tone Thread

Have a look at my "EQ Pedals" Thread and feel free to spam it with your suggestions/research. After trying pretty much every amp in the country under 1000 quid I've decided to try and get the best out of what I have before moving on to something else.

Cool, well I'm currently researching cheap Chinese alternatives to MXR EQs and Fuel Tank power supplies!

While I'm at it, has anyone tried one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01E97OPIW?psc=1

    EQ Pedals

Been looking at EQ Pedals (not been looking that hard) My shortlist was a 2nd hand MXR 10 Band if I can find one or a new Boss 7 Band. Any other suggestions? I just came across this on eBay too: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Caline-CP-24-10-Band-Equalizer-Guitar/dp/B00P3E5LCU Seems like a cheap...

Hopefully Ecc83 will log on in a bit and give me some EQ tips. He's given me tips on EQ pedals in the loop before but I was initially dismissive about it and now I can't find the threads where he was tell me about it.

Yeah, my hunch with Blackstar is that the EQ is all slightly too low. Bass being very low, mid encroaching on the upper end of the bass and the treble covering some of the upper mid.

haha, I haven't heard from Bubba in a while; I guess he'll be back when he hits a good creative vein again. I'm generally happy with what I have, even though it can sound a bit dark/boxy so learning to get the best out of it is probably my best bet for now - its certainly cheaper too! Maybe its...

    The New Tone Thread

There's one 2nd hand one on eBay in the UK for £52 hollow imperial promise pounds - I'm watching it. Basically though, after trying loads of amps and looking for an "answer" all I've realised is that I don't know the question yet. An EQ pedal in the short term will probably make my next amp...

    The New Tone Thread

I've looked at the MXR 10 band - its pretty expensive but seems good. Their 6 band only goes up to 3.2k and I think I want to go higher than that as some of what I am lacking with my amp seems to be "presence" so I've been looking at the Boss 7 band, which is cheap and goes up to 6.4k...

Not sure actually, I liked it a lot, but not sure I want to spend 850 quid on an amp that I'll mainly use in 7W mode. I think I need to get my cabinet built and see what that does... I'm also gonna bite the bullet and use an EQ pedal in the loop like Ecc83 suggested originally. I've got the...

    Noise on track

There's nothing wrong with an SM57 but its not that sensitive if you're recording fairly gentle picked acoustics - I use a 57 for recording loud electric guitars and pretty harsh loud vocals - but use a condenser for acoustics. There's a couple of things you can do to minimise hiss in this...

    Technique regarding Acoustic Recording

Chuku, There's nothing wrong with practising plenty to get it done in one take. However, this can be boring and a pain in the arse. You're recording acoustic so I am assuming you have a condenser mic on a stand and a chair that you like to sit on to play your guitar. Just don't move your mic...

    Stale verse chorous patterns

Sometimes I write simple songs, sometimes I write complicated songs. Sometimes giving yourself a constraint can make you creative, try this as a start: Go through whatever directory you've got where you keep all your half baked ideas. Select two ideas that you think are good and have legs that...

    Newbie Question on editing

OK, we're gonna need a little more info to help you. What instruments are you recording? Real instruments or sims? What interface do you have to connect your instruments to your PC?

Can someone help me find the best DAW program for my specific needs???

I'm a massive recording Luddite and I use Reaper. I just worked out the basics myself and its very simple. Sure there is massive complexity available with it but you don't need to know any of it - I barely scratch the surface of its capabilities. Its also free to try and test so there's no...

    Dylan Anyone?

I can hear that the guitars are a bit bright in the intro - not so noticeable once everything else comes in though. One weird thing - the ride cymbal seems to be centred or near centre - in fact the drums all seem quite central.

    Dinosaur Jr -- Tarpit (Cover)

I'm sure the best modern amp sims are right about there now, I've never used them though. I do use amp sims for coming up with scratch tracks and writing - getting the arrangement worked out and the changes under my fingers. Then I find I can normally do a the proper versions in very few takes.

Paranoid - (slightly punk) Black Sabbath Cover

Cheers, I know the bit you mean. I think the solo in the original is just adlibbed anyway so I just adlibbed it too. He's obviously left two takes on there though and put the slightly shittier one way down in the background. I think I just used a phaser and a delay with the amp down fairly...

You know I'd never tread on such hallowed ground. In other news I finally got to try out a Victory V30 yesterday. They come with either 6L6s or EL34s, I tried a 6L6 loaded one. The clean channel sounds great, goes from quite a spanky clean to a bluesy crunch. The gain channel also sounds great...

LOL, nowhere near. Its a pretty old song and no where near a punk song originally. Its probably best known these days as being heavily sampled in dance music in the 90s, most notably by The Prodigy.
