Like A Stone - Deathmetal cover

The main problem here is that is doesn't sound heavy. I think there's too much gain on the guitars and they are too scooped so they just disappear in the mix, those heavy palm mutes should really stand out. What sim are you using? When the guitars are solo at 3:46 you can really hear the tone on...

Could have been a slight headphone rattle resonating with a low frequency at my end!

D Key - early test mix

Cheers, Dude (I still have a track for you on my (very long) "to do" list... I'm gonna have a fiddle with the arrangement of this over the next few days and see how I feel about it. I'm not familiar with Big Country but I have a feeling that I'm not gonna like it!

This sounds really cool too - this one gets pretty busy though at times, starts to become hard to work out what each guitar is doing. You could probably separate them out pretty easily though. The tone is lovely.

Mate, this sounds like a really interesting idea and I think the tone works. Listen carefully when the main riff comes in at about 25s in - there's a buzz or a rattle on the left. Fret buzz? Something rattling where it shouldn't be.

Mate, if you did that would be great. Its the next thing on my list of boring shit that I don't really want to spend my hard earned on.

D Key - early test mix

Yeah, could be an idea. I'll re-work some ideas for this one and see what comes out - definitely needs a better chorus vocal idea.

D Key - early test mix

Been thinking through an idea with this now, will try and work out how to play it and arrange it this week to record it next weekend. Gonna fully scream the chorus too, make it stand out a bit more.

Yeah, I was just trying to do some examples using really cheap gear that the guy from Nepal would be able to get his hands on. ---------- Update ---------- Armistice, I'll listen to yours later. I don't have my mixing headphones handy right now.

    Affordable distortions for metal.

Sohail - there's loads of pointless chatter going on in the Tone Thread so I'll post these clips here so you can find them more easily: OK, here's some very high gain tones using a Boss DS1 and a Boss SD1 - both should be cheap and easily available in Kathmandu. The DS1 is set with the level...

Sweet Jimi, look forward to hearing it.

D Key - early test mix

Yeah, that meandering riff that just repeats four times in different modes is gonna get reworked and chopped up. I like the verses of this song, I think the choruses are a little cheesey though

Steen, can you clean up the last couple of pages of the tone thread? This debate is going nowhere now and this isn't the place for it anyway

Yeah, they're better than I expected. I'm just trying to come up with a tone that could be easily replicated with gear available at a reasonable price somewhere like Nepal.

    Can't sing at all.

When you first listen to yourself recorded it will sound shit, always does, for everyone. When you first try to work a part out don't even bother with words, just ahhhs and oooos will do. Just try and hold notes to a melody you have in your head. No have a look at what you got with an autotune...

Ray - just listening to your track though. Guitars sound great now, everything is more separate and I can here whats going on. Really like this.

Miner, the short version is that people follow him around the forum, not really interacting with him but looking for things that he's said that they can report.

    Affordable distortions for metal.

Sohail, I've recorded you some tones using a Boss SD1 (Super Overdrive) going into a Boss DS1 (Distortion). I've put them in The New Tone Thread https://homerecording.com/bbs/equipment-forums/guitars-and-basses/new-tone-thread-340185/1327/ A few more people will see them there and have opinions...

OK, here's some very high gain tones using a Boss DS1 and a Boss SD1 - both should be cheap and easily available in Kathmandu. The DS1 is set with the level and tone both at about 12 O'Clock. High Gain is with the gain all the way up, Medium Gain is with the gain somewhere between half and...
