Guitar Tuning and Temperament Primer (revised)

He gave me some advice on how to choose a Luthier for my custom build and only said good things about Ben Crowe and Crimson. I did ask him to quote for building my guitar but he never got back to me - I think he was moving his workshop at the time though.

Guitar Tuning and Temperament Primer (revised)

Yeah - he was banned ages ago. He was a cantankerous bastard but knew his luthiery - he had a tendency to correct people a little bit too bluntly though!

    Basses

Cheers, Greg. I was just gonna check that the scale length of my two basses is the same and put the pickup in the same distance off the bridge as on Bass 2. If they are a different length I was gonna stick it the same proportion of that length off the bridge. That's quite a cool link actually -...

    Basses

Dunno yet - I can pick up a pick up (haha, see what I did there?) for under 10 quid and the both of the basses are essentially worthless so I'll just experiement. I did notice that it would end up being pretty close to the existing pickup if I put another one in though.

    Basses

Robus, I can set a guitar up. The neck on one of my basses seems to be really unstable though. Now I know I am looking for a J Bass bridge pickup I'm finding there are loads of them available for under 10 quid too!

    Basses

Cheers Jimi. Regarding bridge pickup, is that a J Bass pickup?

    Nigel Farrage Blues

Cheers guys, maybe I'll get around to some limited vox on one day. Finishing my punk tracks is more important to me right now though and I'm doing a collab with another forum member. Jessica, apologies for getting you to look up farrage. The guy is a special kind of twat.

    Basses

Can't be arsed to waste money on a new bass - I have far more pressing issues on my wallet, so I'm gonna work with what I have. Right, these are my two shit basses: Bass 1 (red) and Bass 2 (burst) Bass 1: Plays pretty well, feels comfortable, looks pretty cool and basic (just a plank with a...

Automatic Mastering Software And Online Servies

Once I've got my head around the basics, of how to get one track to sound good I'll want to learn how to make a few tracks fit together at the right level. Still writing at the moment though.

    Can Someone Explain the basics

Cheers, now I have some vague idea of what the knobs do I can just twiddle them until I like what I'm getting.

    Can Someone Explain the basics

Lol, now you're speaking English. Before you were speaking engineer.

Does this short sample recording of acoustic guitar/vocal sound ok?

Strange, I thought it sounded boomy like you'd pointed it too close to the soundhole - must be the reverb giving it that boomy quality.

    Can Someone Explain the basics

So to catch the transients and push the level of the mix up you would need a quick attack to catch the transients and push them down to the level of the sustain?

    Nigel Farrage Blues

I would do! But this is so far down my "to do" list of vocals I'll probably never get there. Its even the second on the list of comedy Brexit songs!

    The New Tone Thread

The scratchiness seems to mainly be from the Ibanez which is on the left (from memory). They both have a slight scoop at 530 (-3db and fairly narrow). They also have a +3db high shelf on them which could also be contributing to some scratchiness. I'll have a fiddle with it. I think I've got as...

    Stop - Original glam/pop/rock song

Just listening Mix 6 after having previously listened to the original mix. Sounds much better - I enjoyed listening to it a lot more. The guitars still sound a little dull to me though - like they're a bit too scooped. Are they scooped?

    Can Someone Explain the basics

OK, this should be a simple question (there might be a few of these). What exactly is a transient? Is it the thinks like the initial pick attack?

Automatic Mastering Software And Online Servies

I'm trying to learn a little about mastering at the moment but don't know anyone who can help me... its really hard to learn shit by asking people on the internet when you don't know what questions to ask. Anyway, one of you said earlier that if something is well mixed you pretty much just have...

    The New Tone Thread

Miner, interesting here a amp work its way about the gain dial like that. I'd never have the patience for that (probably why it takes me ages to dial in a tone). I liked the blue channel until it got up to about 5 or 6, then all sounded good but I think five was my favourite - started to sound...
