What do I need to start LIVE SOUND

Probably plenty of good-sized sound companies in western NY to work for. Don't worry about blowing up speakers for awhile if you work for someone else- they won't be throwing you in front of a console any time soon.:p

    Drum Isolation on Stage (pics)

By illegal I guess I really mean "not up to code" which is essentially the same thing, as fire codes pretty much have the force of law. Not following it can lead to revocation of occupancy permits, voiding of insurance policies, fines, etc. If you take the initiative and cover them in...

    Drum Isolation on Stage (pics)

Imagine it's your kids in there. Or your wife. It's hard to justify the risk because your drummer won't tone it down or your soundguy can't get a good mix. Besides the fact it may be illegal.

    Drum Isolation on Stage (pics)

I didn't read the original thread, but I hope you ran this by the local fire marshal and the church's property insurance agent first, and used flame-retardant materials in your construction.

The salesman should have hooked it up for you and sold you on the idea that having it at your fingers to play with and therefore help you to make a decision is worth the extra money vs. waiting for turn-around from an online place, and whatever shipping/restocking fees you would pay for that...

Beta SM58 or Beta SM57 for vocals?

Yeah, but they don't, any more than a 57 and 58 sound the same. The shape of the grill and the fact that in the 57, the diaphragm is closer to the grill account for the differences. At least according to Shure. As always, it depends on the person's voice and mic technique whether either one...

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

Yeah, but why would you? That would compromise the benefits of using the transformer.

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

Sorry, I went into more detail, probably after you saw my post.:p I was pretty surprised to learn about this myself. Here's a link to a Rane document that partly goes into it, I came across it a couple years ago, it made me curious so I did more research. http://www.rane.com/note124.html It's...

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

The bass just isn't wired to utilize that kind of cable and transfer it to a blanced input. It certainly could be.:)

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

That really depends on the gear being used......transformer, servo, and impedance-balanced ins and outs don't exhibit the 6db loss.

How to build a kick mic out of a 10" speaker?

I recorded a show with a pair of headphones once.:)

I never knew cords made such a difference

The pickup, cable, and input of the amp form a circuit. Change any of them, the characteristics of the circuit change. Amps have different input impedances, therefore will have a different results.
