Using click tracks: pro's and con's?

Our band always does strange things when recording: I record to a scratch drum machine track some guitar, bass and vocal tracks (often intended as scratch, but kept in the end). Then the drummer records the drums over it (of course with a click/stick/cowbell track). Much easier for her to get...

    Survey on Vintage equipment !!

You simply might have misunderstood the general tone in here... It sounds a little rude at first (had the same problem when I arrived here -- especially as I'm no native speaker)... But keep in mind, he answered your questions and except the word 'dumbass' it's not too insulting (at least not on...

    Survey on Vintage equipment !!

What the heck is that???? I mean, you ask for feedback, you get indeed constructive criticism (maybe not in the style you like, but you GET it) and start out with a total war or what??? Do you ever think? Why do you think that some people still have those old rotary speakers and carry them...

Compression: during recording or during mixdown?

Try, try, try For the beginning it may be right not to send distorted gits over the comp, but try it, in some mixes it may help you get a much more consistent sound. Dunno too much about the 3630, but not too many guys like this beast... You can 'sharpen' tracks alot if you compress them with...

A cool trick for recording a bass drum...

The trick also works quite nice for strange vocals. Running it through a Marshall is quite overused. You may as well try to record with a headphone, that you rotate 90° around your neck so that one side lies in front of your mouth and the other side on the back of your head. Not exactly the look...

    Lisp vocals

a lisp may also be a problem of overcompression and over-deessing when recording... I often prefer a little too much 'ss' in the sound than having not enough which is lispy... The tip with the 'ss' track might be worth a while, but you could try to do this half-automated: use a narrow band...

    interesting pop filter

Funny enough I saw videos of a band whose drummer hit a steel box with a hammer and I could not recognized the difference in sound to a snar ;) aXel

    VS-880EX w/Zip drive Question

Might be a problem of the OS version: the older OSs might not properly recognize it, while the newer might no longer support it. probabla something like 2.012 shoud work... aXel

Can this work? (A.K.A) Is this an acceptable form of reverb?

Doing rockabily stuff??? Some of my very early 4-Track-Cassette things had a spring verb from a guitar amp as vocal verb - and the rest was dry... Very retroish sound, but don't expect to get any 'reality' feelings... aXel

    Compression? Tips etc.

then: shut up 'n' play yer guitar... I work as much as you tell you do - but if your too lazy to experiment then buy karaoke records and sing onto them... You really suck... aXel

    High quality distortion...

Piezos CAN give a very interesting distorted guitar sound (more for the ska reggae distortion sound) if you have a nice modeler. It'll not work with an amp cause of feedback. You might try a in-soundhole-pickup. They can sound nice, too aXel

    VS8F-2 FX board question....

Aren't there two slots in there? Maybe you used the wrong one? Perhaps you should reinstall the OS? aXel

Why do accoustic guitars always sound like ass when they're compressed?

A notice from the COMPRIMATOR... I bet most acoustic pop song guitars are HEAVILY compressed - so don't you like their sound?? I cannot find any inherent compression in acoustic guitars - it 99% pick and the rest is the sound... May be different with fingerpicking... (Or do I record the...

    Mastering in VS-1880

IMHO, you definitely SHOULD try to start with the 'mastering' yourself. Only that way you'll learn to use the MTK in the best way (and I don't often use it for DIYS-mastering). You should not expect your results to compare with 'pro' mastering. You can nevertheless get your songs louder (if they...

    which mastering processor ???

At first: I'm NOT a mastering engineer, neither a pro, but my amateur views might also be interesting... If you know a little math, you can get all that M/S magix by yourself by adding and subtracting tracks (reading might help a little when trying to understand mastering) If you have a decent...

    Question about Norah Jones' "Sunshine"

... and the radio stations use 'mastering processors' in addition to get the sound more 'radio-ready', which in fact worsens the symptom. I think it was 'trouble' from pink that always made me think of something breaking in my car, until I realized it was some background stuff being raised...

    Dynamic range - extinct

Funny enough - noone seems to care about that part... How many of you have bought CDs that simply cannot be played on your player (esp. in cars a.s.o.). Here in Europe, esp. in Germany it IS a problem. New laws protect record companies to an unreasonable extent. I should be able to return CDs...

    Recording heavy distorted guitars.

Hey, a simple tip withzout urging to buy nu stuff??? Must be sompin wrong with it... Or might there be some truth in it? Mic placement is sooo crucial to your recordings... Try that first... You can even shape your complete guitar sound with placing the mics - and then you might not need EQ...
