Huge influx of idiots to the forum? or just me?

I think that you both are kinda right... Definitely, I think that the help given in a forum like this one can be invaluable when you start. I didn't start in here but over at the VSPLanet. So alot of my beginners recording questions were answered over there. Nevertheless I did not understand...

Huge influx of idiots to the forum? or just me?

Alot of the frustration comes from the questions being asked in the wrong room, that's true. I have kinda 'retired' a little, but when I posted more, I tried to get to the newbies forum everytime being here and tried to answer one question. It gets kinda boring to have all that real low level...

NEW TO THIS AND ALSO VS880ex

It's not perfectly true that you can't record any more, once you've used up the eight tracks for drums... You can select two different virtual tracks on two tracks and bounce up to 6 tracks to them. You might think of creating a overhead/tom submix and bounce to these two tracks. Which leaves...

The excitement generated in this forum is deafening!

Funny enough - the last time I visited this forum, I found the same topic by monty... :D aXel

Compression to group tracks in a mix

It is not uncommon to compress groups. Often used for background voices a.s.o. ... Can tame a lot of the dynamics without giving the impression, as the single voices still have 'their' dynamics. A sum compression tends to let 'win' the loudest parts, thats why the dynamic feeling may be kept...

Please Hear Our EP And tell us what you think!

Listened to 'Let it show'. IMHO, the singer is completely off intonation wise (though I could imagine I'd not do any better  -- the stuff is difficult...). Perhaps you intend that (some kinda blue notes) but I don't like it. I have to admit though, that I'm into rather pop-punkish style, so...

    EQing Heavy Distortion

The only thing that I found out to work with overdistorted guitar ist to use a multiband compressor. Any EQing didn't work with the tracks I had recorded. It'll take you some time to set it up properly, though (and that's almost impossible to do unless you have some experience with compression...

    What am I doing wrong?

You oughta behave better... ;) I think the tip is not meant as an insult while your reply seems kinda insulting... If your tracks distort, back up with gain... aXel

    "safety" compressions for vocal recording?

I'd even go further down... Imagine that you have additional 48dB of resolution compared to 16bit. If you even peak at -48, you (theoretically) still have the quality of old 16-bit recordings. There were some you could listen to these days... :D Your noise will nevertheless get worse, the lower...

    roommates

Often have similar probs as when I'm able to mix, the kids are asleep. Very often I use the phones to do all cleaning, gating and often even some compression. Then I do rough mixes with it, setup the delay a.s.o. The end mix has to be heared through monitors. You'll always get something very...

    Compression Experts Please Come Forward

... and that's why people end up saying something like 'compression kills everything'... Really good tips above -- listen to them. Two more little notes: If you don't have experience, you'll not be able to set the compressor (maybe some presets will work with slight modifications). If you...

Spend money on Mixing or Mastering??

None of both... This reply may sound insulting, but it's not meant to be... I think you should better keep your money. Do your mixes, by the time doing that, read alot, learn what sucked in your recorded tracks and do it better the next time... Maybe use sth. like the mp3 clinic or so to get...

    Masterlink Artifacts - Sometimes

I assume that you have some overall system settings for windows, that are just set to the CD player. Had a similar problem once when talking about a song that I listened to at work and was DROWNED in verbs, which I told the creator. He surely thought I was crazy, as it was dust dry... Next day...

Question about triggers for an acoustic set

Sorry, don't wanna diss anyone, but I'm pretty sure, you'll be able to use drumagog on any standard piezo drum trigger (which is in fact almost any trigger afaik). I use an alesis D4, and really like it, but from everything I know about drumagog, it should work... Try it out: buy a simple 1$...

    Girls!! (and recording)

It's probably the things she sings and the way she does. Overdubbing is NOT the way to go if you want to keep thing from being angel-like --- there was athread on enya and her overdubbing style, you might find it, if you seek. If you have to overdub, spread the panning. Verbs may help. I found...
