Delay- better to use pre- or post recording?

Having unlimited options during mixing will only suck the spirit out of your recording. Make a decision while tracking, record with the effect as you like it - so that you are stuck with it, and when you mix it's there and you don't have to spend countless hours fiddling with something that...

    Stereo Bounce as Mixdown?

I've been trying to find a thread related to this. I would like to use my 1/2" 8 track to record and then mixdown. So I would be mixing from 6 tracks down to the remaining 2. I know I could mix to my DAW or a 2 track 1/4", but I don't want the cleanness of a mix straight to the computer (and...

One more question - reverb on a 4 track cassette - best solution?

Use the Boss RV5 reverb pedal. plug it into the send/returns on the 414. It has lots of nice reverb settings, it's inexpensive and small, and it sounds good.

Tascam 38 playback sounds muffled and fluttery.

Oh wow, yeah I bet that's my entire problem. I recorded and played back with the tape on the correct side of the lifters and it sounds great. Thank you for your help!

Tascam 38 playback sounds muffled and fluttery.

The wobble (especially on fast forward and rewind) is better than it was 2 days ago. I havent done anything. The recorded audio is still bad. On the video, the first song is from a CD and the next two I recorded (the second song vocals are muffled because you're hearing only the guitar mic). I...

Tascam 38 playback sounds muffled and fluttery.

This is my first time using a reel to reel. It's a Tascam 38. The first thing I noticed is when I rewind, the take up reel on the right wobbles a little and the right tension arm bounces around. It's only noticable when I rewind/fast forward. When I record and playback everything is very...

    Using Audio Hijack Pro

This forum is for a different kind of "recording techniques". Varney - I don't think "nearly everyone in the world" recorded off the radio. Recording from youtube is not a good way to listen to music. It's like watching a movie from a camera someone snuck in a theatre. Is that okay too? It's...

Upright piano tracking question - 1st attempt....

The best way to know what kinds of sounds you are getting is to know your monitors and headphones. I don't think there are any tricks. Know that your headphones have a hyped midrange/low end (or whatever) and mic the piano accordingly.
