    Eliminating room reverbs in recordings...

Yeas, this is the easy way to go IMO. I've been using this approach (with sheets), and it's cheap, easy and effective. Skip the "reflexion" devices and save your money for mic's, pre's and other "fun" stuff...

    asio or wdm

It really depends on how good a job the particular soundcard vendor does in writing their specific drivers. Some spend more attention on their ASIO drivers, and their WDM drivers are an afterthought. Sometimes it's the other way around. It's not a blanket thing... depends on your soundcard...

Looking for a decent channel strip.

Well, in this case they seem to be right. I can't vouch for all of their choices! I was impressed by the build quality of the Mindprint for one thing... typical German attention to detail. I also looked at the Presonus Eureka and the Focusrite Platinum strips. Neither of them sounded as...

Looking for a decent channel strip.

FWIW, I am extremely satisfied with my Mindprint Envoice MkII, which BTW was winner of best product for 2006 in its category in 'Electronic Musician' magazine. I would disagree with the comments made discouraging the use of analog compression on the signal while tracking. While not appropriate...

when recording i cannot turn off monitors

The problem is, for $39 you're going to severely compromise your monitoring sound quality. Read the user review here to get some idea what to expect: http://www.homerecordingconnection.com/studio_equipment.php?product=Behringer+MON800+Stereo+Monitor+Mixer There are solutions such as the...

when recording i cannot turn off monitors

If I'm not mistaken, the Event TR-8's have pushbutton power switches at the rear of the enclosure. I have the TR-6's and that's what they've got. I mean it's not that hard to turn a switch on and off.. is it? Am I missing something?

    Old School recordings

Don’t forget that the Beatles weren’t in control of the recording circumstances early in their career. This is an important fact to realize. In fact, they were appalled at what EMI’s USA affiliate, Capitol Records, did to their releases. Songs that had been recorded and released in beautiful...

    Old School recordings

BTW when it was first released, the album was titled "The Beatles Again", but this was soon changed to "Hey Jude". I've got a copy of the first version in my vinyl collection.

    Sonar 5PE isnt recognizing Hypersonic

Hypersonic is an instrument, not an effect. Insert using the Synth Rack View, not in the track inserts section. The VST Adapter is for plug-ins (effects).

Are we talking about "Please Please Me" or "Abbey Road"?

What's the deal with waves iLok now?

With the PoCo FireWire system the DSP box is the dongle... but it's large enough that you likely won't lose it. Seriously, I have no idea why anybody would mess with Waves and their ilk (Steinberg and IK are also on this kick). The whole dongle/iLok/Pace game is a serious disrespecting of...

Have you noticed nobody talks about Jitter

Have you noticed nobody talks about jitter? That's because it's a conspiracy. First it was flouride in the water. Then Area 51 and Roswell. But what about JITTER!!!! What about it?!?

    Order of Operations

Reverb is typically the last effect in a chain. As far as the sequence for compression and EQ, you should try your chain both ways, listen carefully, evaluate and then decide for yourself which is better for that particular situation. If it sounds better, than it is better (to paraphrase Joe...

problem with aardvark in amd x2 system

I would think for the long haul you'd want to ditch the Aardvark and get something that was, oh I don't know... still supported?

Help me choose a pair of SDC's

... that's basically what I've heard about Oktava mics. And it's is a problem that you don't have to worry about with the Rode NT-5's. In my experience, Rode's attention to QC is superlative.

    saving sonar projects ON DVD

Absolutely stay away from saving your projects as bundle files, since if the bundle file is corrupted even in the least way, all of the audio will be entirely irretreivable.

    question about the vtb1

Another useful application of the polarity reverse is if you record your guitar amp using two mic's, one in the front at the speaker grille and one in the rear. This gives great results with open-back amps like the Fender Deluxe Reverb, for instance. But you have to flip the phase on one of...

    looking for firewire interface

I'd look into the MOTU Ultralite also. Nothing against the 828 but it's kinda getting long in the tooth, and it's not MOTU's latest technology. The Traveler is even hipper, but would break the $1,000 budget barrier. That RME FireFace 400 will be priced right around $1K too, I think... maybe a...
